After 25 years of fronting the internationally recognized blues band Misty Blues, Gina Coleman has decided to release her first solo album which highlights the unique timbre of her voice which evokes the visceral emotions of her lyrics. This album was recorded within an hour of Gina returning from her mother’s funeral. She hit an unexpected snow storm coming back from the service, resulting in a 9 hour drive to the studio taking 18 hours. She was up for 40+ hours when her final vocals were recorded.

Mixing engineer, Ronan Chris Murphy, truly captured the enormity of emotions she struggled to contain. Ultimately, Gina wanted her first solo album to showcase a vocal quality/approach she rarely uses on Misty Blues recordings. Little did she know that the circumstances leading to this recording session would result in the personification of "Unequivocally Blue". /Bluestown Music

Misty Blues and lead singer, Gina Coleman, celebrate 25 years of composing and performing original blues with hints of jazz, funk, soul and tent revival gospel. Misty Blues has recorded with Charles Neville, Joe Louis Walker, Eric Gales, Justin Johnson, Kat Riggins, Early Times and Matt Cusson. They have also opened for traditional & contemporary blues artists like Tab Benoit, John Primer, Roomful Of Blues, Albert Cummings and Michael Powers.

In 2019 the band became a finalist in the International Blues Challenge. ‘I’m Too Old For Games: A Live Tribute To Odetta’ is the band’s 16th album, their third live album, second tribute album and second acoustic album.

A passion project that has been brewing since the mid-1990s for the lead singer of Misty Blues, Gina Coleman, whose encounter with the legendary Odetta at the Bottomline club in New York City as a guest of Arlo Guthrie left a powerful impression and was a seminal moment in her career.

That inspiration came full circle in the form of a live recorded album in May of 2023, “Tell Me Who You Are: A Live Tribute To Odetta.”. That album took residence as the #1 Traditional Folk Album on the Roots Music Report chart for 24 consecutive weeks. Even with that success, Gina was troubled by the understanding that it was one of the first full album tributes to the Queen of American Folk and was concerned about Odetta’s body of work slipping into obscurity.

Given that concern, Gina and the band decided to embark on a 2nd live tribute album, “I’m Too Old For Games,” which is being released a year after their first tribute album to Odetta, and on the heels of Misty Blues’ most recent original album “Silver Lining” in their 25th Anniversary year.

Band founder and lead singer, Gina Coleman, entered the music scene in the early 90’s as the lead singer of the folk/rock group Cole-Connection. It wasn’t until 1999 when she played a gospel singer in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of A Raisin In The Sun that she was steered down the path of blues. The lead actor in the production, Rubin Santiago-Hudson, told Coleman that he felt her voice was well suited to sing classic blues. This sentiment was echoed by actor/singer, Mandy Patinkin, who sought her out after seeing the opening performance of the production. After actress Gwyneth Paltrow commented on her performance, Coleman knew a musical shift was imminent. Guitarist Jason Webster and bassist Bill Patriquin from Cole-Connection were on board and thus began Misty Blues.
With a deficit of blues music in the Berkshires at the time, they felt the musical change would be well received. Misty Blues pays homage to the older blues made popular by the bold and brassy women of its time, while still paying respect to classic male artists of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. The band hasn’t completely abandoned their musical roots; they frequently perform classic rock and folk tunes infused with a healthy dose of the blues. Over the years, Misty Blues has produced four albums, Electric Juke Joint features classic blues renditions, Roadhouse Revival is a dance-able twist on traditional gospel music, Between The Stacks their completely original album with Charles Neville on sax, and With All Due Respect which pays homage to some of the earliest blues music ever written. The core members are Gina Coleman, Jason Webster, Bill Patriquin, Jeff Dudziak, Benny Kohn, Aaron Dean and Rob Tatten. The band has been fortunate enough to perform with some great musicians in the Berkshires and beyond including Charles Neville, of the legendary Neville Brothers, Matt Berger, and Dave Vittone.
