Perhaps the late, great Jethro Burns summed it up best when he said, "I don't play guitar when Dowling's in the band. You don't take the game warden fishing." Well known to Nashville bluegrass and acoustic blues pickers, guitarist and singer songwriter Mike Dowling's credentials include time spent as side man or session player for such legendary musicians as jazz violinist Joe Venuti, mandolinist Jethro Burns, and fiddling greats Vassar Clements and Buddy Spicher. Dowling originals have been recorded by a number of bluegrass artists.

With guest artists John Miller (guitar), Orville Johnson (mandolin), Grant Dermody (harmonica), and Cary Black (bass). "The Blues Ain't News is spectacular. The picking is impeccable, and not just the guitar -- each of the backup musicians stays right in the pocket, they bring everything into focus and sound wonderful without distracting. And the vocals, wow, very rich, warm and soulful, as good as I've heard. This is a very great acoustic album; the sound rivals the best stuff that I play on my show." ~ Chris Powers
