Ralph De Jongh was born in 1975 in Roosendaal and is a gifted blues singer/songwriter who, despite his young age, has already built up an impressive list of performances. When he was five years old, he was inspired by his father's Rolling Stones albums. Little Ralph practiced the guitar and developed a voice that suggested that there was a black soul in this blond Brabanter. After many performances here and there and a degree in ancient Chinese philosophy, Ralph threw himself completely into his music and that did not go unnoticed. Harry Muskee, the uncrowned king of the Dutch blues, saw him in 2004 and immediately became a fan. They became friends and Harry gave the young Ralph every chance by having him perform in the support of Cuby & The Blizzard on their theater tour in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Ralph De Jongh is a sensation in the contemporary Dutch music scene. Not only to listen to, but also to watch. His body, arms and legs suddenly seem to have a life of his own when he starts playing the blues and the audience is always the winner during Ralph's intense concerts. Ralph's music rises above the average blues story and this means that things are as they should be for this young blues musician. With his raw blues à la Steve Seasick, he gathers new fans every performance and is a must to see live.

Johan Derksen calls the albums of Ralph De Jongh, hidden jewels. In 2015 there was the successful album 'Sun Coming Up' that was received positively by both the press and the public. Ralph has been writing songs for twenty-five years, so he is releasing two double albums this year. On January 1, 2016 there was the release of the double album 'Live @ De Noot' with an integral band performance. On March 31, 2016, the North Sea Jazz Club released the release of a 24-song studio album, recorded in the world-famous and completely renovated Wisseloord Studios. We have already discussed the first live album, now we are going to take a closer look at Lonesome Man / Ocean Of Love.

Ralph de Jongh, the Dutch singer/songwriter and great Dutch blues discovery of the 21st century, first winner Dutch Blues Award 2011 and Dutch Blues Challenge 2014, as if in a trance, reveals the very depths of his soul in his concerts and recordings. In a style in which only Ralph de Jongh can perform, in a phenomenal atmosphere of sound, we dream back to the times of pre-war blues and the sixties of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. Experience the incredibly beautiful portrait of a phenomenon. This is pure….This is Ralph de Jongh….This is Emotion.

Harry ‘Cuby’ Muskee, the singer songwriter of Cuby +Blizzards, wrote: “I was standing in the bar of café “De Amer” drinking a beer and I heard there was a supporting act. Now generally I don’t pay much attention to supporting acts, but this time I heard a sound that made me think of an old blues singer that I had heard in the Delta. I expected to see somebody from the Mississippi Delta, but to my amazement I saw a tall blond guy playing the slide-guitar and harmonica with incredible originality. This was my first encounter with Ralph de Jongh…Many more would follow. In the meantime, we have spent many hours talking to each other and to my astonishment it turned out we both know something about Laozi, a well-known Chinese philosopher. Ralph de Jongh plays with conviction and with a drive that you do not see very much these days. He has a relentless empathy for the blues and he is a young man who dares to choose not to take the ‘easy way out’: Glitter, quick success…., but instead chooses a piece of culture in the form of the music of Robert Johnson, Son House, Elmore James and Muddy Waters. By now insiders have come to know Ralph and I hope that the media too will provide him with a podium, for if you have just a small knowledge of music you will know this is too good a chance to miss. You’ll be hearing from Ralph. With respect and pleasure, Harry Muskee.”

Ralph De Jongh – The Flying Dutchman is back with a sensational cd ! You can entitle him a lovely blues-rockin’ and songwriting lunatic. Also in 2017 he will be permanently on the road for solo, duo and band shows. The utmost special on maestro De Jongh is that he never loses his creativity. Every show is different, even the song interpretations On top he has the gift of writing and getting hooky song-inspirations within minutes even at a gig. He retrieves his powers by enjoying nature together with charming singer and partner in crime Monique Anderson. He even continues to find the fervor for painting. His early and continuing love to the good ole sheiks of blues & rock’n- rollas, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, JerryLee Lewis, Harry Muskee and off course The Rolling Stones will be his everlasting love and inspiration. When all the old masters will jam heavenly at one time he will continue their earthly musical heritage.

Ralph De Jongh – The Flying Dutchman is back with a sensational 3 cd box “Dancing On A Volcano -20 Years of Burst Out Explosions”!

By “Highway Man”, as title track in a short and long version Ralph is the Lord Of The Blues-Rock’N & Rollin’ Pandemonium by chant! It is also ever so magical and sultry by the seductive background-vocals of Lovely Van de Wetering / Patries Van Iterson& Monique. Ralph is the devilish slide guitar-slinger and he is in fervid duet-entrancement specially with his guitar-mate Maarten Ouweneel and saxophonist Arend Bouwmester. “Fine Man” is a honky tonkin’ southern celebration tune and Roel Spanjers is in the spotlight by his extraordinary piano solos. “Everywhere” is like a bewitching dream-song where the mighty Loup Garou or Mississippi Bigfoot is haunting you. It is definitely considered to be dedicated by the song-charisma to the unforgettable and iconic Willy DeVille. “Last Salute” as highway hymn is a last dynamic, brilliant, thrilling and jamming blues-rocker. A starry grand-final!

“Bemuse Me” represents the singer-/songwriter sight of Ralph. Beautiful melodies and even meditative songs manifest that Ralph can also be a calmer and peaceful artist. The cd is specially stunning because of the saxophone-wizardry by Arend. “Bemuse Me” as title-song even has funky bass and drums-grooves by Nico Heijleigers (b) and Arie Verhaar (dr.) and may inspire you and your beloved for an erotic dance. By “Still A Fool” Ralph’s chant is ever so to hoodoo you, besides his sensitive string-wizardry. On top the sax-extravagances makes it the absolute highlight of the cd. Off course Ralph cannot totally keep calm, so by “You Got To Try” he’s powering again and is the sultan of slide-guitar. The joyous “Gimme Some More” is concluding the cd. It will make your day bright from wake-up till sleep-time.

“Misty Train” features three live-songs, of which “Waist Deep” is the reason for the title “Burst Out Explosion”. DeJongh the man was ever so spontaneous and just created this tune within moments. Vow and ever so surprising! Ralph live and in ecstasy is really a hot deal. On the other spiritual songs he manifests his fingerpickin’ six-string artistry and addiction for delta-blues. “Lay My Burden Down” leads you way to the bayous of any majestic river, here Holland got the beautiful Ijssel. Swampy melodies may ecstasize you to dream of demoniac fable creatures. On “Songdust” violinist Ewa Pepper highlights her extraordinary, virtuoso solos. Beautiful & shivering the samemoment! The concluding “As I Passed” is his song for peace and like an ode to the unforgettable blues-icons in heaven. But, hey mister De Jongh, we need you still on earth, you are way too young, haha!

Hell of a great, loveable artwork and booklet featuring liner notes from Ralph, photos (specially with friends) and press-reviews. The cover of “Highwayman” has to be specially mentioned, it shows his two drivers – Leen Wander and Max Joosten (also a virtuoso harmonica-player). Leen is mostly his driver and also a great photographer. It is unbelievable how he conducts Ralph through the nites for every show safely. Leen you absolutely rock!!!

The sounds of the cd’s are modern, powerful and stunning and absolutely authentic for each song interpretation.

Ralph de Jongh, the Dutch singer/songwriter and great Dutch blues discovery of the 21st century, winner Dutch Blues Award 2011 and Dutch Blues Challenge 2014, as if in a trance, reveals the very depths of his soul in his concerts and recordings.

Harry Muskee: “Believe me. I have seen Ralph perform many times and I can assure you: this is value for money. After watching Ralph tour with C+B for a year, I am convinced that a rare talent as well as a good friend is at work here.”

Charlie Burchill,, the guitar player of The Simple Minds , wrote: “RALPH is a true spirit who plays directly from the heart. He has an unrestrained empathy for the Blues.”

This was my first encounter with Ralph de Jongh.

Many more would follow.
