With Scott Henderson, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Morse, Rick Vito, Robben Ford, Albert Lee, Jim Cox as guest artist, there is a lot of great playing to listen to on this album! It is a treat to hear these great guest players trade off solos with Verheyen, and especially fun since they all have very unique styles. My favorite is probably Bonamassa and Henderson's appearances - some wickedly tasty licks and lines happening there by both the guests and Carl!

There are a couple of songs that are a bit dull and boring, but the rest of the tracks make up for that. Lots of great tunes. By the way, Carl sings really good too, this was a pleasant surprise! Great voice. ~DolphinStreet

Vocalist Deb Ryder matches her unquestionable blues-mama bona fides with some of the smartest lyric sets dropped in the genre this year. The Chicago-born Ms. R smolders and scorches her way around sassy, savvy workouts such as the leadoff “Ain’t Gonna Be Easy”, “Panic Mode” and, along with Sugaray Rayford, one of the hottest r&b duets one’s likely to come across these days, “Get A Little Steam Up”. Ms. Ryder keeps more good company with sidemen such as guitarist Albert Lee and keyboardists Mike Finnigan and Jim Pugh.

UK singer, pianist and guitarist Mike Sanchez is one of the most exciting and charismatic performers of Rhythm & Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll in the world today. His indelible image as a frenetic front man, pumping powerful boogie-woogie from the piano in a soaking suit, has won him fans from all over the world and attracted a following from many famous rock and blues legends who have lined up to work with him. "So Many Routes" features some excellent original material that was recorded in 2006 with Mike Sanchez’s former band mate in Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings : Albert Lee. Mike took the time to polish them and the result is certainly of his best CDs to date.
Albert Lee, one of the most famous rock guitar players from England, had a successful solo career and played with the 'who's who' of the rockin' scenes from the 1960s up to the nowadays. Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds, The Everly Brothers Reunion, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bill Wyman, Bo Diddley, Earl Scruggs, Tom Jones, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton to name just a few.
This album is fantastic mixture of classic Rhythm & Blues and Rockabilly music !

Over the years, Cleopatra has made it something of a specialty of theirs to release tribute albums to popular artists, but 2012's Black on Blues: A Tribute to the Black Keys feels a little different than its predecessors -- not as rushed, almost bordering on the carefully considered. Of course, that impression may just be a reflection of the presence of the Iggy Pop and Ginger Baker duet on "Lonely Boy," a collaboration that pays back some dividends as the melody is perfectly suited for Iggy and Ginger swings with nonchalant assurance. It is the performance that's least concerned with the blues but it's not the only noteworthy performance, odd pairing, or comeback, either: Dave Davies teams up with Huw Lloyd-Langton for "Money Maker" and Jackie Lomax comes out for "Dead and Gone." Almost everybody involved sticks to songs from Brothers and El Camino, stripping away whatever interesting sonic flourishes the Keys or Danger Mouse laid upon the originals, concentrating on the bluesy core. Naturally, there is a lot more guitar here than on the Black Keys versions -- and the guitar tends not to be the kind of fuzz explosions Dan Auerbach favors; instead, it's a lot of cleanly articulated Stratocaster picking and overdriven tube amps -- and although it paints the Black Keys as a little more traditional than they actually are, it's generally agreeable stuff apart from the occasional gut-busting vocal (see Pat Travers' exaggerated "Everlasting Light"). And that may not be the same thing as necessary or interesting, but Black on Blues is something that most Cleopatra comps of this nature are not: it's enjoyable. ~Stephen Thomas Erlewine
