The first line-up of Albatross was formed in the mid-70's by Barry McCabeand the showband veteran John Smith in the village of Virginia, Co.Cavan. They were named after the Fleetwood Mac song. Barry's two main influences were Peter Green and Rory Galagher. The highlight of this early period was undoubtedly supportin Horslops at the Farmer's Ballroom in Virginia 1976.

By the early 1980's was a blues trio based in Dublin with ex Zen Alligators gary eglinton on bass. They toured relentlessly across northern Europe throughout the 80's, recording several albums.

Barry McCabe continues to record and perform regularly as a solo artist.
