Blues entertainer Linsey Alexander was born in Mississippi but raised in Memphis, where he got his first guitar from a family friend. After learning the rudiments of blues playing and vocalizing from recordings by Little Milton and B.B. King (both of whom had also journeyed to Tennessee from the Delta), he saved up the money to travel to Chicago in the late '50s, and never looked back. While working in juke-joints on the city's fabled South Side, he was often given the opportunity to tour with blues greats like Buddy Guy and Magic Slim, but Alexander preferred to stay with his own style. He released an LP in 1997. ~John Bush

Linsey Alexander - If You Ain't Got It

Chicago is the blues capital of the world, and if recent popularity is any kind of benchmark, Linsey Alexander just might be the hottest sound in town right now.

Born in Mississippi and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Linsey Alexander discovered on Chicago's south side a down to earth city that truly understands and appreciates music. In much the same way as many great blues artists before him, he grew up in a poor but honest and hard working family, learning early on that music has the power to lift the spirit and comfort the soul. In Linsey's own words, "Blues music is not hard- it's just a documentary about life."

His first guitar - a gift from a family friend who played on the front stoop of Linsey's home in Memphis - was never retrieved from the pawn shop where he left it almost 50 years ago. Using the money to help pay his way to Chicago, he now plays a variety of Gibson and Epiphone guitars, and since 1959, Linsey Alexander has been perfecting the art of entertainment blues for the sheer and simple pleasure of it. His easy smile and unpretentious personality define a charismatic entertainer who loves to perform; and perform he does!

Although having played with B.B.King, Bobby Rush, Buddy Guy, Little Milton, Magic Slim Johnnie Taylor, A.C.Reed and other great blues performers., Linsey Alexander has remained resolutely true to his own style. His current release, Someone’s Cookin' In My Kitchen, is a compilation of original Blues and R&B tunes.

He is thankful for the good things in his life, and now at last, seems willing to realize that the friends who encouraged him to keep playing over the years may have known a thing or two about talent. Maybe, just maybe, he's ready to believe.

Linsey Alexander is a true Bluesman, and these performances were recorded from a live show at a the legendary Chicago blues club, Rosa’s Lounge. Continuing the Delmark legacy of great live recordings, this album will give Linsey the respect he deserves as an artist and mentor to many younger musicians. The milestone record “All Your Love, I Miss Loving, Live at the Wise Fool’s Pub” by Otis Rush was a touchstone for Linsey’s project. Mixed and mastered at Riverside Studio, with special thanks to Dick Shurman and others, “Live at Wise Fool’s” is an ultimate example of an authentic blues album and moment. Linsey Alexander “Live at Rosa’s” producer Julia Miller has fond memories of Wise Fool’s as well (though in a later era than Otis’s “Live” was recorded). For Linsey, the Delmark team (Miller/Barilari/Wagner) was going for an updated, modern sound, with a classic energy and pacing.

A review of Linsey Alexander’s previous album Come Back Baby in Living Blues magazine called it 'a can’t-miss release for any lover of no-nonsense Chicago blues'. The 'Hoochie Man' is back with all original material including the new smash Two Cats! 'My woman got two cats, one in the front, the other in the back!' From the searing 'Where Did You Take Your Clothes Off Last Night' to the tender 'Til I Kissed You', from the comedic 'Facebook Woman' to the political 'Comb Over Blues' Linsey weaves his colorful stories throughout this album of blues, soul, R&B and funk. It’s great fun and serious music at the same time. ‘Cause the blues don’t mess around and neither does Linsey.

Everyone knows it gets hot in Chicago in the summer time. However, there is only one reason why it stays hot in Chicago all year long. The reason? Linsey Alexander. Fact is, Linsey Alexanders brand of blues has been burning up venues all over the world. No greater truths have been spoken from six strings and a voice that has been there and seen it all. Since 1959, Linsey Alexander has been perfecting the art of blues for the sheer and simple pleasure of it. His easy smile and unpretentious personality define a charismatic entertainer who loves to perform; and perform he does!
