Nacomi Tanaka or sometimes simply referred to as Nacomi is a Japanese blues singer, guitarist and songwriter. She often expands her boundaries beyond blues music into sounds of American roots and Japanese pops sung in Japanese. She is currently based in Kobe.

Life and career Nacomi was born in Kyoto. Influenced since youth by her father who loved foreign music, she grew up listening to American music such as country and jazz. She picked up an acoustic guitar when she entered middle school, and formed her own band during high school days.

She studied at Doshisha University, and while she was a student there, she entered an amateur band contest "8.8Rockday" with Karasuma Shako, an R&B band she had formed with friends she met at the college music club, and they proceeded to the finals.

She found work after college graduation and retired from performing then, but in 2000, she returned to the music scene. In 2001, she met Shinji Shiotsugu, a renowned blues guitarist, and joined his band where she stayed for the next two years. After she left the band, she formed her own.

In 2007, she made a CD debut with album Grabbed My Heart. The following year in 2008, she appeared at the Taipei International Blues Bash in Taiwan for the first time, and she continued to play at the event for the next 7 years. She has been proactively performing overseas appearing at events outside Japan such as the Little Walter Music Festival in Alexandria, Louisiana (three times after 2014), and a festival in Shanghai.

In 2015, she released an album with covers of Little Walter titled Nacomi Sings Little Walter with her blues band Nacomi & The Blues Temple.

In 2019, she took part in Johnny Burgin’s album recording session done in Japan. It was released the following year by Delmark Records titled No Border Blues. P-Vine Records released it in Japan under the Japanese title ブルースに国境はない which is a direct translation of the original.

In 2021, P-Vine Records released Nacomi's best compilation album Onward And Upward containing three new songs. An original album The Nacometers followed from the label in 2023. The Nacometers is another band led by Nacomi apart from the Blues Temple. With this album, her sound is more towards American roots music.

Nacomi announced that Nacomi & The Blues Temple would break up in December of 2024 after 11 years since its formation. Pierre Ochiai, the guitarist of the band’s physical strength limitation was the reason given

A super blues band consisting of Takashi "Hotoke" Nagai x Takashi Numazawa x Takashi Nakajo x KOTEZ. The Blues Power's Takashi Nagai (vocals & guitar) and Naoto Numazawa (drums), who suffered the tragic loss of guitarist Yoshiyuki Asano on the day of their 1st album release, decided to carry on the late Mr. Asano's passion for the blues. The newly formed blues.the-butcher-590213 (commonly known as Blues the Butcher). With the addition of Takashi Nakajo, a blues freak who plays bass in Theater Brook, etc., and KOTEZ, who is attracting attention as a funky and powerful harpist with KOTEZ & YANCY, the 4-piece band is creating a new blues that is different from The Blues Power. We started our activities in June 2007 to build this. With guests such as Monsieur Kamayatsu, LEYONA, and Fusanosuke Kondo, they perform nearly 100 days a year, including monthly concerts at Koenji JIROKICHI in Tokyo, as well as national tours. The one and only band sound is created by groove master Hisashi Numazawa's drums and Takashi Chujo's bass, Takashi Nagai "Hotoke"'s deep blues singing and guitar, and KO TEZ's powerful harmonica. The sound of this unique band has been around for 9 years. The band name "blues.the-butcher-590213" comes from the late Mr. Asano's nickname, Butcher, and his birthday, February 13, 1959

This new album is their 10th album, including two albums with the late Monsieur Kamayatsu and James Gadson, and two albums with Utsu Yoshiko (ex-Mescaline Drive - Soul Flower Union) as a guest. The theme of this album is Muddy Waters, the origin of Nagai's blues. Muddy Waters was the first bluesman Nagai fell in love with. He is the creator of the Chicago band Blues, which has greatly influenced the Rolling Stones and other musicians around the world. Blues the Butcher has often featured Muddy Waters' music, but this time we are going all out with Muddy Waters' numbers. This new album is almost entirely Muddy numbers.

11. Walk That Walk Daddy-O (2:48)
12. Twilight Time (3:51)
13. Ain't Nobody's Business (3:59)

Vocalist Jewel Brown has had a career spanning over 65 years that has included stints with the likes of Lionel Hampton, Earl Grant, Louis Armstrong, Arnett Cobb and Dizzy Gillespie and veteran guitarist Milton Hopkins. This set, recorded in Japan last year, shows that her voice has lost none of its range or suppleness, and her spirit remains strong she attacks everything with the gusto of a hot-blooded chanteuse in her prime, and she has the chops to pull it off. As she told Living Blues' Roger Wood, "I don't do gimmicks ... I give it all my soul".

Not many 78-year-olds could tackle material like the antic torch song That's a Pretty Good Love; the hot-to-trot soul sister's anthem One Monkey Don't Stop No Show; the jubilant wronged-woman's declaration of triumph Goody Goody or the lushly romantic Don't Go to Strangers and sound convincing, but Ms. Brown does. Her timbre is supple, clear and astonishingly youthful; her melodic and rhythmic sense are unerring yet loose enough to allow her to embellish her lines with subtle but eloquent improvisational colorations. This is no retro-chic 'swing-revivalist' outing but an in-the-moment celebration of timeless music, delivered with the self-confident brio of a veteran both savvy and ebullient, life-toughened yet exuding the kind of soul nourishing joy that cannot be faked.

The band comport themselves with a balanced combination of hard-swinging earnestness and gonzo-fueled R&B anarchy, most notably tenor man Koda 'Young Corn' Shintaro's bar-walking sax honks and trombonist Coh's joyfully irreverent tailgate blats. And speaking of irreverence, Jewel Brown has the last word with her remake of Ain't Nobody's Business, in which she finally redeems the song's notorious references to domestic violence by changing the protagonist into the singer herself. It's a perfect sign-off by Ms. Brown, for whom the blues remains a celebration of strength, dignity and survival which is to say, life. /David Whiteis, Living Blues Magazine

Bloodest Saxophone is a horn driven R n’ B band, from Tokyo Japan. They were formed in 1998 by Koda Shintaro, who formed the band “to rule the world with the saxophone”. They have played with the great sax icon Big Jay McNeely and also with vocalist Jewel Brown. They have eleven previous recordings.

The six piece band is a Japanese version of Roomful of Blues. The band includes Koda “Young Corn” Shintaro, tenor sax; Coh “Colonel Sanders”, trombone; Osikawa Yukimasa, baritone sax; Shuji “Apple Juice”, guitar; The Takeo “Little Tokyo”, upright bass; and Kiminon “Dog Boy”, drums and congas. Don’t you love those nick names. Nick Connolly (who has played with Gary Primich, Long John Hunter, W.C. Clark, R.J. Mischo and Omar Dykes among others) is added on piano and organ. The album was conceived and produced by Dialtone Record’s Eddie Stout and recorded at the Wire Recording Studio in Austin, Texas. The idea was to record the retro band with some big Texas voices; so they named the album “Texas Queens 5”.
