On the plains of North Dakota, USA nestled between the tall grass and the open prairie sky sits a recording studio. The sound of overdriven guitars with dueling lead harmonies and classic rock undertones rips through the air followed by vocals that reach you with a deep resonation in your soul.

This type of music, uncharacteristic of the area, is akin to a sound of decades past and Jennifer Lyn and her band, Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival, are determined to share their spin on this style of music with the world.

Her band's latest project, titled “Nothing Holding Me Down”, set to release on August 20, 2021, features music from a woman who clearly has a soul set ablaze like a person baptized in the river of Rock n Roll.

Lyn was a child heavily influenced by the sounds heard while spinning her parents’ vinyl, and that influence led her to capture various genres on this release such as Rock, Blues, R&B, and a dash of roots music. This album is reminiscent of 60s and 70s vibe music melted into a pot of contemporary Blues-Rock.

The album kicks off with the title track, “Nothing Holding Me Down”, which grabs you and lures you to shake what your mama gave you while leaving you wanting more. The second song on the album, “I Hope We Make A Change”, leaves you inspired with well-written thought-provoking lyrics backed by a guitar-driven low-resonating drop “D” rock riff.

The middle of the album is like a nice soft blanket that wraps you in a warm embrace as you’re serenaded with the Blues ballad “Lay Your Memory Down” and guided through storytime with the upbeat Motown feel of “I Wish You Would”.

Lyn and her band finish the album with a call to justice rocker titled “Weight of The World” and a roots-based closer titled “Everything Will Be Alright”. In all, the album's eclectic mix of influence is a nicely kneaded ball of Blues-based music just out of the oven and it’s smoking hot!

Lyn is joined this album by seasoned music veterans Richard Torrance (guitar, vocals, keys), Jim Anderson (drums), and Chris Addison (bass). Recorded in Lyn’s home studio, she co-wrote and co-produced the album with Torrance. Lyn also engineered, mixed, and mastered the project.

The diverse background of each musician created a divergence of individual styles that complement the overall texture of the music.

The new album Badlands, from North Dakota Blues-Rock artist Jennifer Lyn, couldn’t come at a better time. As a new generation takes the reins, keeping Blues-based music alive is needed more than ever to remind us of our own history and preserve the love of this genre for generations to come.

Born in Minnesota, Jennifer Lyn grew up between two worlds: one, her family’s love and appreciation for traditional country, folk, and gospel music in her home; the other, the years she spent absorbing many diverse forms of music while living in various places throughout the United States. Getting serious about the guitar in 2013, it didn’t take her long to decide to front her own band, Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival, and share her diverse music background with her growing group of fans.

Her debut album I’m All Wrong for You Baby (released in October 2016) touched on her musical diversity with songs ranging from traditional Blues, Rock and ballads with gospel undertones. Her new album, Badlands (to be released in February 2018), delves even further and casts an eye on a blend of different musical experiences creating a variation of Blues music that embraces a wide pallet of many sub-genres. Her songs on the new album are fueled by her soulful vocals, burning desire to play guitar and beautiful accompaniment from band members Darren King (bass) and Kevin Holm (drums).

Recorded in Bismarck, ND, Badlands was produced by international recording artist Richard Torrance (Capital, Shelter Records), who also produced her last album I’m All Wrong for You Baby and is featured instrumentally on the new album. Badlands weaves between hard-hitting, guitar-driven songs that touch on stories of love gone wrong and society pressures; like a cheating lover or finding your place in today’s world (“Burned it Down” and “Anything But Me”) and more personal narratives speaking of life (“Let Go This Time” and “Muddy Water”). While these stories are deftly crafted, this is really an album of moments. Lyn’s solo’d voice and clean guitar speak to overcoming the fear of love in the ballad “Give Into You” while the opening sparseness of the song breathes life into the words. The driving groove of the title track “Badlands” accurately echoes the heaviness of the lyrics and topic matter. The traditional Blues format of “I’m Running to You” and “West to Bismarck” pay tribute in form and measure to those that came before. The Southern Rock influenced song “Gonna Let You Go” breaks any trance as the smoke of the electric guitar cuts through in the opening lines. The final song “Goodnight Sweet Darling” dives deeper into the diversity of Lyn’s childhood playing heavily upon her folk/country roots as she weaves a beautifully well-written story that leaves the listener wanting more.

All of these moments point to an artist wise beyond her years and on the move to preserve Blues music for years to come.

From the plains of North Dakota, USA, Blues-Rock artist Jennifer Lyn is gaining attention from a rapidly growing regional, national, and international fan base for her original music. Her songs are being described with words such as "raw, powerful, and soulful". Fans describe her voice as a mix of Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt, which Jennifer finds humbling as both have been her influences. Since picking up lead guitar in 2013, Jennifer has progressed at an astonishingly quick rate to emerge on the music scene as a budding young guitarist coupled with her hauntingly soulful vocals.

With the release of her debut self-released album "I’m All Wrong for You Baby", she proved she has much to share and she’s here to stay. Backed by Kevin Holm (Drums) and Darren King (Bass), the group showcases their ability to meld various genres and create vintage sounds with a whole lot of soul while keeping with the traditional power trio format. Produced by international recording artist Richard Torrance, and mixed/mastered by Grammy nominated engineer David Swenson, the album was released and immediately gained traction within the Blues and Blues-Rock communities.

Jennifer strives to positively represent both independent artists and the Blues-Rock genre alike. She looks to expand her audience to capture and entertain those who appreciate guitar driven music and she also enjoys the idea of taking her fans along for the ride as she progresses as an artist. She hopes to increase awareness and nurture the love people have for the Blues genre. She plans to continue her path as a recording artist and entertaining audiences with her dynamic live performances.

Thanks to Gio.
