Gary Sibley, the son of the late gospel singer Luther Sibley, was born and raised in Greensboro, NC. He was surrounded by Piedmont-style Gospel music at an early age. At the age of ten his father introduced him to Piedmont-style blues guitar in their home where he watched his father play his troubles away after work. Gary was taken in by the way his father transform from a tensed, troubled man into a mellow man that became one with the sound that came out of his guitar. He was hooked and later played bass guitar for his father's gospel quartet, "The Gospel Explorers".
At sixteen Gary formed his first group,"The Keys Of Soul". He later picked up the six string guitar and has formed several gospel groups throughout the years. Gary began to feel a calling to take his gifts seriously and use them in ways that glorify God. He began his career as a street musician in 2008 and took on the stage name of Daniel Rassum. This was a time of transition and refinement for Gary as he performed throughout the United States.
