JR Clark is an original Blues, Soul and Southern Rock touring artist and songwriter who has a heavy Chicago Blues influence. Following in the footsteps of blues legends such as the late great Michael Burks and Luther Allison along with Blues Rock legend Larry McCray, J R brings it all together to mix with the House Rockin' sound that he learned and was mentored under his great friend Lil Ed Williams of Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials. Learning how to entertain and lead a band under Lil Ed's guidance has rubbed off on J R and you can tell by the energy he brings when performing. Band mates consist of International touring artist and Alligator Record recording artist Johnny B. Gayden on Bass. Johnny B. Gayden performed on Grammy winning album "Showdown" with Albert Collins "who he toured with for many years" and also Johnny Clyde Copeland and Robert Cray. Johnny B. Gayden is known as one of the most influential bass players in the blues and is always on high demand for studio recording. Randal Willis who has spent some time with Artie Blues Boy White, Mississippi Heat and Tyrone Davis to name a few performs on Drums. Rounding out the group on Keyboards is Kalamazoo Michigans own Willie Styles who has spent time touring with the late Robert Ward. Willies musical background brings a lot of different flavors to the bands sound. With the diverse musical backgrounds of the group their music ranges from Chicago Blues, Soul, Funk, to Southern Rock. The J R Clark Band have just released a live recording entitled "J R Clark Band Live at Kathy's Riverside Tavern" and also their latest single "Two Zero Twenty". Both can be found available for purchase on multiple platforms such as Apple Music/Itunes, Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music, etc. and the bands official Video Release of "Two Zero Twenty" can be found on the bands web page/social media and Youtube. The J R Clark Bands most recent release titled "Wishing Well" was released in 2020 and is available on most streaming platforms. The official video can be found on the bands web page, youtube and social media platforms.

JR Clark is a guitarist, singer and songwriter from Michigan and this is his fourth studio album. His band bears the impressive title of ‘The Allstar Blues Mob’ and bassist Johnny B Gayden (Albert Collins) and Buddy Guy/Magic Slim drummer Jerry ‘Bam Bam’ Porter are certainly very experienced musicians, alongside keyboard player Willie Styles. A horn section of Johnny Cotton (trombone) and Kenny Anderson (trumpet) add additional firepower to five tracks. JR wrote all the material bar one track and Johnny B had a hand in three arrangements. The album was recorded at JoyRide Studios in Chicago by Blaise Barton and Brian Leach who adds egg shaker, tambourine and ‘Fish’ on “Shakin’ Margaritas”.

Overall this is an impressive album with no weak tracks. The horns are superb on the tracks on which they feature but the band is strong enough to entertain us throughout the album. This was the first this reviewer had heard of JR Clark but he is someone to watch out for. This CD is recommended! ~John Mitchell

The JR Clark Band has just recently released it's second self-produced CD titled "I Shoulda Listened To My Conscience". J.R Clark penned all thirteen cuts and the CD is getting rave reviews. On a few tracks you can hear the influence that Lil' Ed of "Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials" has had on J.R. He and Ed have become close friends over the years and Ed has become a mentor for J.R. He even calls J.R. "his son". J.R. is continuing a style of slide playing that Lil' Ed, Ed's uncle J.B. Hutto, Hound Dog Taylor and Elmore James have all mastered. Learning to play all types of chords in the "open D" tuning, he can do a whole nights show playing slide just as Lil' Ed does. Not only can J.R. lay down some greasy, gutbucket, house rocking, boogie slide guitar; he is also a double threat on standard guitar. Another blues legend that has had quite an influence on J.R. is Luther Allison, which is quite evident when you hear him cover Luther's "Cherry Red Wine" or "What's Goin On". J.R. has even been known to reel in some of the "not so blues purists" with uncanny renditions of cuts from George Thorogood and the Destroyers. His ability to pull songs out of nowhere, from old blues standards to house rockin' blues and even a little soul, has earned J.R. the nickname of "Human Juke Joint". " I feed off the audience. Once I get a vibe of where they want to go, that's where I take it. I want everybody to have a party".
