Big Al Dorn brings an original, authentic raw blues sound with a nod towards West Coast Swing and Mississippi Hill Country Blues to go along with it. Smokin’ hot grooves coupled together with powerful harmonica and stinging guitar. He plays original tunes and classic covers by John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, RL Burnside and the Chicago and West Coast harp legends. This hard working, rising young star is a force to be reckoned with and a definite “must see”.

Born and raised on the Eastside of Milwaukee, Al began his career busking on street corners for pocket change until a chance encounter with local blues artist Reverend Raven catapulted him into local stardom. Through the Reverend, this astonishing young star has toured with and opened for some of the biggest names in the Midwest such as Lil' Ed Williams, Charlie Love and others. Tutored by legendary harmonica players Jim Liban and Madison Slim, Big Al is considered one of the best harmonica players in Wisconsin. He recently won a WAMI Award for Harmonica Player Of The Year.

When not performing with his own band, you can see Al with Chicago and Wisconsin Blues Hall Of Famer Paul Filipowicz, Delmark recording artist Dave Weld, Wolf recording artist Brenda Taylor and a host of others. Big Al Dorn is a true professional, honoring his influences and keeping the legacies alive, all while remaining original in his approach to the music.

“Big” Al began his career playing on the east-side of Milwaukee before reaching the legal age. Upon hearing a John Lee Hooker record with Jimmy Reed on harmonica, Al started focusing on harmonica instead of guitar. After 3 years of dropping and picking up various instruments and genres of music, Al realized that the Blues was where his heart truly laid. Over the years, Al has toured, played with and opened for several Legendary Blues artists and bands such as Billy Branch, Corky Siegel, Jim Liban, Reverend Raven & The Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys, Paul Filipowicz and Many More!!!

“Big” Al Dorn & The Blues Howlers are true professionals, honoring their influences such as John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Little Walter and of course, The Greats William Clarke and Rod Piazza.

Eventually, "Big" Al's talent began to be noticed and praised by the veterans of the Milwaukee Blues community. At 14 years old, he met and forged a long lasting friendship and collaboration with local Blues legend Reverend Raven.

Through the Reverend, "Big" Al has met, played with, and been apart of some of the biggest names of the Midwest Music Industry. He occasionally loans his talents to other local bands.

Having played in many top Wisconsin bands, "Big" Al not only adds West Coast Swing & Jazz to his unique sound, but remains completely TRUE to his Blues Roots.

Inspired by early blues legends of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and Robert Johnson. "Big" Al grew up listening along with vinyl. Heavily influenced by his friends and Milwaukee Blues legends Reverend Raven, The Blues Disciples and Jim Liban. "Big" Al cultivated his raw blues vocals in his hometown of Milwaukee, where he performs. Although he jokes on stage that he was born in a shotgun shack in the bayou outside New Orleans, Louisiana, "Big" Al Dorn was born and raised on the east side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he still remains to this day.

At age 2, He first found the Blues when listening to a record by Blues Superstar John Lee Hooker. A year later, Al picked up his first harmonica, little did he realize that it would become important tool in his career. After his older, guitar picking brother Niko moved away to college, "Big" Al discovered the guitar and has played one ever since. As Al grew, he discovered more and more Blues legends like Muddy Waters, Little Walter, B.B. King, etc. When he came of age, "Big" Al discovered the local Blues scene and has never looked back. The dream of being successful is a long, hard road and sometimes reading and learning about how musicians make money isn't enough. At age 7, "Big" Al began to play on the streets of Milwaukee for whatever money and tips he could get. After busking on the streets for 6 years, "Big" Al's talent began to be noticed and praised by the veterans of the Milwaukee Blues community. At 14 years old, he met and forged a long lasting friendship and collaboration with local Blues legend Reverend Raven. Through the Reverend, "Big" Al has met, played with, and been apart of some of the biggest names of the Midwest Music Industry. He occasionally loans his talents to other local bands. He has also had the privelige and honor to perform with legendary harmonica players Jim Liban, Billy Branch and Corky Siegel and Chicago greats Smilin' Bobby, Robert Stroger, Matt Skoller, Rockin' Johnny Burgin and Tom Holland. Having played in many top Wisconsin bands, "Big" Al not only adds Jazz, R&B and Soul to his unique sound, but remains completely TRUE to his Blues Roots.
