Alex Conti and Frank Diez are seasoned musicians based in Germany with successful careers going back to the '70s. Veterans of such bands as Lake, Atlantis, Emergency and quite a few others, the two guitarists have solid backgrounds in heavy-grooving, riff-tastic blues and jazz-influenced combos. So, here we are in the late aughts, and along comes Berlin Blues, a heavy-grooving, riff-tastic blast the blues straight out of Deutschland.
These guys are not kids. They are serious, they know how to play and they've recorded a fun, kickass guitar-soaked adventure into Euro-blues. There's also plenty of impressive and very rocking Hammond-werk (especially on "Down, Down and Down") to leaven Conti and Diez's twin six-string assault. The vocals, if occasionally uneven, are perfectly enjoyable. This album is an unexpected treat, and connoisseurs of blues guitar will want to recommend it.
