Blueass Blues Band began in 1981 with three musicians and a shared love of blues music. Thirty years later – the band has gone through a few changes but two original members are still here and above all - their love of music still remains true. From the beginning they were a hard working trio who performed original material and clever covers all in a shake-up of Chicago style blues, rock n’ roll with a twist of Texas-boogie and they soon became a popular band at local clubs and parties.

Soon the band was ready to spread their wings and focus on what they wanted to accomplish with their music – and it didn’t take long. In 1993 they played their first Blues festival – Åmål Blues Festival – which was followed by requests from all the top blues and music festivals in Norway and Sweden. They released their first full-length record “Breakin’ Through” (1994) on the independent Soundtronix label. In 1995 Soul-legend Arthur Conley heard the band and signed them to his Holland label Sweat Records for their second release “Hooked On You” (1996).

Blueass [Blues Band] from Filipstad celebrates 35 years as a band, and may well be called veterans on the Swedish blues scene. About ten years ago they had a timeout, but now they're back in full swing and also has a smoking new CD in the luggage - "Things Left Behind". When it comes to the blues blues, the age of an artist/band rarely means a downside and Blueass really shows that they are on top. Peter "PG" Gustavsson sings better than ever, and Ralph Broqvist delivers one smoking guitar solo after another.

Except for one - Taj Mahal's "Blues Ain't Nothin" - all songs are original compositions, and it's really a strong collection of songs written by the band members. Despite the fact that the record has a large musical variation, "Things Left Behind" is still a well-balanced album. No doubt, Blueass is back for real on the Swedish blues scene! /Kjell Wikström, Jefferson Magazine

Personnel: Peter "PG" Gustavsson (lead vocals/guitar/harmonica); Ralph Broqvist (lead guitar/vocals); Morgan Jansson (bass); Måns Tingberg (drums, percussion).

Various Artists - All That Blues From Sweden! Vol. 1&2

Swedish blues lives, is vital, and is developing. Stylistically, the breadth is great - rhythm and blues, southern soul-spiced blues, boogie woogie, shuffles, juke joint blues, bittersweet slow blues, jump blues, traditional country blues, and even country blues at top speed with a punk attitude. Songs, tempos, and feelings which give rise to everything from partying on down with two more pints from the bar, to sitting in a corner with your tears diluting a tightly clenched glass of whiskey. As Jimi Hendrix once said, "The blues is easy to play, but hard to feel". /Excerpt from the liner notes for All That Blues From Sweden! Vol. 2

These releases found their way out of Scandinavia and into the hands of European and American radio DJs and music critics. The response was enormous. They loved the music ... they loved Blueass!
