Hungarian harmonica player Mátyás Pribojszki is no longer unknown in the Netherlands due to his many performances here. In his musical career he is known under both his own name and under Jumping Matt. With guitarist Ferenc Szász, who was also part of the Mátyás Pribojski Band, he also forms the duo Grunting Pigs. Their first CD “Grunt Away” was released in 2016 and was well received everywhere. The duo recently released their second album, entitled “Having A Party”.

Nine of the twelve songs are covers of classics and the other three are their own compositions. On three songs the gentlemen are assisted by a number of musical friends. For the rest they do it all themselves. Because the covered songs are of very diverse origins the CD is also very varied. For example we hear the r&b of Smiley Lewis, the soul of Sam Cooke, the country blues of Mance Lipscomb and Arthur Crudup and city blues of Jimmy Reed. And this alternates with the European blues of Ripoff Raskolnikov and the gentlemen Pribojszki and Szász themselves. Songs that in my opinion deserve a special mention are the country blues “Sugar Babe” (M. Lipscomb), the smooth “I Don’t Go For That” (J. Reed), the very beautiful own composition “Dog Without A Bone” and the best of the CD - “It’s Not Easy” (R. Raskolnikov). The title says it all, because this CD is without a doubt a party. /BarnOwlBlues

11. My Little Angel (2:33)

Jumping Matt is vocalist and harmonica player Matyas Pribojszki from Hungary. He started playing harmonica at age 15, after hearing the late Sonny Boy Williamson. From 1994 – 2004, his first band, The Blues Fools, became the most well-known Hungarian blues band on the European blues scene and recorded three albums. During the past 15 years, he has released five albums as Matyas Pribojszki Band, toured Europe and the U.S. His signature jumps on stage earned him the nickname “Jumping Matt." His new release “Dressed Up” features the rest of his combo (Ferenc Szász-guitar, Daniel Molnár-drums, László Csizmadia-bass), as well as the Custom Big Band with its twelve members.

There area dozen songs on this CD, all originals except the closer "Switchin` in the Kitchen" (by Big Joe Turner). From start to finish, these guys create a nice, delightful groove that gets you jumping right along with Matt. There’s a lot of variety of this album from swing (“Real Good Man”) to boogie-woogie (“Zydecola Boogie”) to rock ‘n roll (“Can’t Make You Stay). This is some powerful music with a unique flair. His jazzy band has a smooth style, elegant arrangements and professional musicianship (even in their own compositions). Mátyás serves up a perfect taste at the border of jazz and blues from faraway in Hungary. His tasteful playing easily competes with the best blues harmonica cats on the planet and he's on the way to a very personal and expressive style of his own that should redefine the role of the blues harp. As a bonus, the other musicians on this disc are extremely excellent on their own instruments.

The mainland of Europe is now blessed with an flourishing blues scene and many top bands – and from Hungary, hail the Matyas Pribojszki Band, led by the virtuoso harmonica of Pribojszki himself, who also possesses a fine voice. He has clearly absorbed influences of the great harmonica men and added a modern, contemporary twist to his playing, and most enjoyable it is!

The band are all fine musicians, and comprise: Erik Kovacs (keyboards), Ferenc Szasz (guitar), Ervin Eckert (bass) and Daniel Molnar (drums), with special guest, Gabi Szucs on background vocals – they all wonderfully add swing and groove to the front man on this 12-song set that combines originals and some great, well-picked covers.

Mátyás Pribojszki Band - 2 albums: Treat / How Many More

”Mátyás Pribojszki is definitely a brilliant instrumentalist; his tasteful play can by all means compete with the best harmonica players of the blues planet. But the most interesting fact is probably that he is clearly on his way to a very personal and expressive style of his own that will help to redefine the role of his modest instrument in the close future. Thanks Matt, for your warm music. Besides, the band sounds just great!” ~ quoted by the great master, Jean-Jacques Milteau.

Personnel: Matyas PRIBOJSZKI - Harmonica, Vocals
Eric Kovacs - Piano
Ferenc Szasz - Guitars
Robert Kepes - Bass
Daniel Molnar - Drums

Notes: Mátyás Pribojszki is one of the finest young harp players to emerge from Eastern Europe - Hungary. He plays both traditional and contemporary blues harmonica styles with a practised assurance which belies his years and his tone, phrasing and timing are right on the money.
He is a 38-year-old man in command of a full range of creative talents – he appreciates all the legendary blues harp masters who inspired him, but next to being faithful to traditional roots, he builds his own contemporary style which will probably open a new chapter in harmonica playing – and not only in the blues genre alone. Mátyás is out touring and performing, from one country to another and proving, festival after festival, that he is not only a true harmonica talent, but a singer, a songwriter and an amazing showman as well. He brings people to listen to his music, and to dance to his highly energetic live performances. He always manages to grabb the attention of the audience, night after night in a varied showcase of entertainment that doesn't rely on any rules and regulations.

His live album 'Boogie On The Ship' released in late July, 2010. The album was recorded on December, 2009 one of the most exclusive, popular also by international performers and clubs in Budapest. The audio recording of the live concert, in the post-production no technical changes have been made, so full of the atmosphere of the record sold-out concerts!
The nearly 50-minute disc contains nine songs and sold more of the old songs, but you can hear new songs you've never played traditional blues songs new "outfit" and a real boogie-woogie and rock and roll tunes as well. The title track single, "Boogie on the ship," is a new own compositions. The title also shows that the student has a merry, live concerts drop it, which can not be described as classical music and blues meet, which was also filled with a lot of improvisation studded team.
