Blues singer Karen Carroll was seemingly destined for a career in music: not only was her mother Jeanne Carroll a blues and jazz vocalist as well, but her godparents were guitarist George Freeman and singer Bonnie Lee. Born in Chicago on January 30, 1958, Carroll started performing at the age of nine, joining her mother's band as a guitarist five years later; at 18 she struck out on her own, cutting her teeth in tiny South Side blues joints and developing a deep vocal style heavily influenced by jazz phrasing as well as the intensity of gospel. She made her recorded debut on Carey Bell's 1984 outing Son of a Gun, followed by the 1989 Eddie Lusk LP Professor Strut; Carroll made her solo debut with 1995's Had My Fun, returning two years later with Talk to the Hand. ~by Jason Ankeny

Michael Pewny was born on 11 November 1963 in Vienna and began at age six , pre-loaded music by his father to take classical piano lessons . At age 13, he discovered his love of the blues and devoted himself , in addition to his education , mainly listening to shellac and vinyl records of his heroes Albert Ammons , Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis, who made this music popular in the 30's in the USA. The Vienna Boogie Woogie Session 1976 at the Vienna Konzerthaus , and the legendary boogie woogie session in Peter Rapp 's TV show " Spotlight " was a vital cause .

Back in 1979, Michael had his first public appearance in the VHS in Hietzing and then again in 1981 at the Vienna Club " Papa 's Tapas " . After 9 years of jazz club experience and many sessions with friends ( Jazzland , Red Angel ) , by the way was still the army and the university to visit, he took in 1988 his first LP "Vienna Boogie Woogie " with Torsten Zwingenberger on drums on which now also available on CD is available . As early as 1990 he was discovered by the German record label " Bellaphon " and produced , with Michael and the English singer Dana Gillespie, his first CD, "Left Hand Roller" .

After several trips to the USA, vorliebend to New Orleans, with Günther Schifter , tours and TV appearances , he took 1992 his second CD "Boogie On My Mind" with Martin Wichtl , the talented singer Sabine Ruzicka from Krems on whose cooperation through her medical studies was terminated. It lasted until 1996, when his third CD , " Crazy ' Bout Boogie" with Christian Dozzler , was recorded.

Numerous festivals at home ( Vienna Jazz Festival ) and abroad (Paris , Munich, Ecaussines , Burghausen, Ermelo , La Roquebrou ) ) as well as trips to LA, Chicago, New Orleans and Barcelona inspired Michael in 1999 , together with Al Cook, Martin Breinschmid and his father, Leopold , to accommodate " Movin ' to Chicago " . It was the first production under his own label , " Susy Records " .

A highlight was the Burghausen Jazz Festival in 1998 , with Big Jay McNeely & Dana Gilliespie .

On the occasion of his 20th stage anniversary , appeared in 2000, the Millennium CD "20 Years Jamboree " , with Prof. Oscar Klein , Gerd Stächelin and Hans Bichler .
2001 brought Susy Records " Steamin 'Blues " on the market on which Sister Shirley Sydnor (USA) , Katie Kern, Gerald Seilinger , Alfred Winter and Heini Altbart to hear sind.Anlässlich his concert in the castle Perchtoldsdorf in 2002 , it was decided , these shots bring out with Anke Lamprecht and the choir Timeless , on CD. In 2003 , Michael `s 9.CD , " Michael Pewny meets Karen Caroll " was published (live) .

2003 was an interesting year internationally . First, the production of his first DVD and then festivals in Lugano ( Switzerland ) with Silvan Zingg and Axel Zwingenberger , La Roquebrou (southern France ) with colleagues from around the world such as Jean Paul Amaroux , Martijn Schok , Ricky Nye , Christian Bleiming , Errol Dixon, Stefano Franco and Greta Holtrop and last but not least Chicago and his meeting with Karen Caroll from the USA in Chicago, with which the year was launched in concert 2004.

The year 2006 was marked by Michael `s 25th anniversary on stage . ( " Cincinnati " ) , where the neuerste live CD "Live from Cincinnati " & Wiener Neudorf, with Ricky Nye , Julian Philips , Roman Polt and Petra Gols present . Also to mention , in 2007 as musical director , the 1st Internat. Boogie Woogie Festival in Brunn am Gebirge, which will take place in 2014 to 8x in a row.

Should not forget to mention Michael's numerous charity events , among others remain for " Licht ins Dunkel" and " People for People" as well as his contribution , 2009, in a Hollywood movie , " He 's Just Not That Into You " ( " He's Just Not That Into You " ) , starring Ben Affleck and Jennifer Anniston, with a title of his first CD , "Sweet Sixteen bars" by Ray Charles, with Torsten Zwingenberger (dm ) ( Warner Bros ) .

Its 30th anniversary on stage came to an end . It was at 10.10. 1979 in the VHS in Hietzing when he first stood with the school band Epsilon on a stage. Today Michael plays mostly solo, but also with his musical friends and colleagues around the world , such as the original Bill Haley's Comets , the Mojo Blues Band , Dana Gillespie, Linda Gail Lewis, Wanda Jackson, Abi Wallenstein , Wendy De Witt Little Willie Littlefield, Ricky Nye , Axel Zwingenberger , Vince Weber, Jean Paul Amouroux , Jean Pierre Bertrand, Fabrice Eulry , Carl Sonny Leyland, Janice Harrington, Angela Brown , Doretta Carter, Judy Archer, Anke Angel, Al Cook, Christian Dozzler , Oscar Klein , Boogie Boys , Danieal Balazs , Julien Brunetaud , Jo Bohnsack , Rob Agerbeek , Martin Pyrker many others , just to name a few , the list would go beyond the page , the way he nor his Jazz Trio / Quintet . Interesting encounters, in concerts , with Memphis Slim , Sammy Price , Blind John Davis, Big Joe Turner and Linda Hopkins, unfortunately never ended up in a musical collaboration , except that wonderful session with Champion Jack Dupree in Vienna Jazzland and Charlie Watts at the Vienna Metropol.

After 33 years on the stage, appeared in 2012 Michael's first solo CD " The Hollywood Pianist" as well as the 35-year anniversary in 2014 , live, Big Jay McNeely with , from the Viennese dance, 2013. ~online translation from German
