Blues and I — it's a story that began early. As a kid, I saved up my pocket money to buy blues records. It was instinctive. Obvious.
My childhood was marked by constant movement — relocations, changes, new surroundings. City after city, I discovered different vibes, new faces. These transitions were the perfect training ground for the life I was about to lead and opened me up to countless musical encounters.
At 14, I stepped on stage for the first time — a revelation. I've never stopped since. I played with several bands, joined different projects, and in 2000, I founded Walking Blues, my first group. In 2003, I released my debut solo album. The following year, the Nico'ZZ Band was born.
My style? Blues, of course, fused with groove, funk, R&B, reggae and rock. In 2006, I traveled to Chicago to record my third album at RAX TRAX Studios — a powerful experience that marked a turning point.
From 2013 on, beautiful collaborations emerged: Donald Kinsey (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Albert King), LeBurn Maddox, Tim Austin Mitchell, Sir Waldo Weathers (James Brown)... musicians I've had the honor and privilege to play with — on stage, in the studio, or on tour — in France and beyond.
And then there are the long-lasting stories. Like the one with David Briot, to whom I owe so much. We've continued to work together over the years — most recently on the single It Hurts So Good, produced by Donald Kinsey — a glimpse of the upcoming album.
Playing, dancing, singing the blues has the power of a prayer for me. Freedom... Music is sacred. And the story goes on.
