Silvia Josifoska is one of the most important and original faces of the Slovak blues and jazz scene. Silvia discovered blues already as a teenager, and soon it became a dominant genre in her repertoire. Besides blues, Silvia was enchanted by genres such as soul, funk, jazz and rock. Ever since the first half of the 90’s, when she entered the music scene, she captured the audience by her unique voice color and strong musical feeling. At that time, Silvia was known from performances by the folk-rock group Sanyland or her own formation Mr. Band (with which she produced the blues compilation Blues Company No 2, 1998) and was quickly establishing herself on the Slovak blues scene.

At that time, she is accepting a collaboration offer from the top Slovakian keyboardist Gabriel Jonáš. Gradually, her collaboration extends to other elite Slovak musicians such as Juraj Burian, Martin Gašpar, Marcel Buntaj, Juraj Tatar, Martin Durdina, Erich Bobos Walk, Juraj Turtev, Stefan Lengyel, Ondrej Krajnak, Stefan Pišta, Bartus, Marián Ševcík and many other top musicians from Slovakia but also from abroad such as Stan the Man (UK), Peter Rowan (USA), King George (USA). In 2005 she released the first blues debut CD "Blues" together with her band.

Silvia has performed at many club and festival stages during her longstanding musical career. With her colleagues she has performed on stages not only in Slovakia, but also in the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Poland and Russia. Thanks to her inimitable voice and expression, many Slovak and foreign celebrities have invited her to collaborate on their studio projects, e.g. Jaro Filip, Richard Muller, Jaromir Nohavica, Janek Ledecký, Second Grass, Peter Rowan and many others.

Personnel: Silvia Josifoska (vocals); Pišta Lengyel (guitar); Martin Žiak (bass); Štefan Bugala (drums); Erich "Boboš" Procházka (harmonica); Peter Preložník (keyboards).

"Nemám Hlad, Nemám Smäd" (I'm not hungry, I'm not thirsty) - a new album by the two Slovak bluesmen Lubos Bena and Bonzo Radvanyi has been recently released on the Czech Indies Happy Trials Records Publishing label. The new album is a collection of mostly Lubos Bena and Bonzo's original tunes, sung in Slovak and English, supplemented with a few well-known blues standards. The album was recorded as was usual in the old days - all live, in one session and mostly in one take. Simply, "one two three four and go". The album's cover and inserted booklet are interwoven with black and white photographs, songs lyrics, info about the musicians, as well as about a history of the resophonic guitar and its inventor.

In spite of the "mini" personnel of just the two musicians involved, the new album offers a wide variety of music. It contains not the typical twelve-bar blues only. In individual pieces you can hear different harmonies, rhythms, moods and even blues styles. Lubos Bena has capitalized on his experience of traveling around Mississippi Delta and besides the resophonic guitar he plays at the same time also on a reduced drum kit. On top of that, he has recorded on the album all the rhythms parts, washboard, resophonic guitar, a special guitar made of gas can, electric Fender Telecaster guitar. In the last album's tune he "plays" even the sound of the famous Slovak Pine Brandy bottles... On the other hand, Bonzo Radvanyi, who is a more blues-rock oriented musician, has recorded all the vocals and enriched the album with some harmonica and kazoo solos. Beside the two mentioned musicians, in a couple of tunes the album features also Hammond organist Mike Kramir, who used to play with Bonzo Radvanyi in a legendary Slovak beat group The Breakers, back in the 6Os.

Lubos Bena and Bonzo Radvanyi are the best-known resophonic guitars promoters over here. Not only they play these instruments, but they also live in the part of Slovakia where John Dopyera was born. They both have several times also personally met with the family of John Dopyera. By the way, the new CD album is dedicated to the memory of this Slovak born inventor of resophonic guitar, whose 120th birth anniversary will be commemorated in July next year. Besides, in January 2013 we will also mark the 25th anniversary of his death.

Jergus Oravec was born April 15th, 1989 in Trencin, Slovakia. He is the only child of academic painter Juraj Oravec and his wife, dancer Jana Oravcova. He took up the study of piano at the age of six and actively played for seven years. Leaving the piano behind, Jergus discovered the guitar at the age of sixteen. He is grateful for his beginnings to Led Zeppelin and the guitar of Jimmy Page.

Musically developing, he began his first rock band, Next Page. Playing all over Slovakia, despite its limited ensemble (trio), the band is capable of working its way to the national finals of the Blast:beat competition in 2008—with its own repertoire. In the same year, the band also recorded its first album of the same name.

Eventually, Jergus reached out to the roots of music—the blues—and the band grew by two more members (saxophone and keyboard). Next Page changed their musical style and published a blues DVD, “Just One Night”. This recording from a live concert was later nominated for the Blues Newcomer of the Year in 2010.

In the meantime Jergus records a demo acoustic project, “Born”, which contains such blues standards as the music of Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters or T-Bone Walker. 2011 marked the transition to more experimental genres, such as nu-jazz, neo-soul, traditional jazz and funky. In the same year, Jergus participated in the Czecho-Slovak version of the singing competition American Idol and musically influenced a large audience. Jergus was among the top 16 finalists of the show, but was eliminated with the song Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd, which he later recorded live at the Slovak Radio Expres.

Jergus is currently heavily playing in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland with his musical project Jergus Oravec Trio. Often playing in clubs, the band also plays at music festivals. In 2012, the Jergus Oravec Trio became the laureate of the prestigious international blues festival Blues Alive. Furthermore, Jergus’s album “Just Above The Surface” was recently selected among the top 20 best self-produced blues albums from around the world at the International Blues Challenge 2013.

At the age of 23 he has recorded one studio album, one Christmas single, and two live DVD recordings. He has collaborated with many influential Slovak musicians and continues to work with some of the biggest names on the Slovak music scene.
