Will Jacobs went to high school in Winnetka, Illinois where he was the guitarist in the Grammy winning New Trier High School Jazz Band in 2008. The following year Jacobs was the winner in the Youth Division of the Chicago Blues Challenge sponsored by The Windy City Blues Society. He represented that society at the International Blues Challenge and was the winner of a 2010 Generation Blues Scholarship. He went onto to study at The Berklee College of Music in Boston. As a sideman he has played with numerous Chicago artists including Linsey Alexander, Sharon Lewis, and Breezy Rodio; and opened for name artists including Billy Branch, Toronzo Cannon and Tommy Castro. He has since toured with C.J. Chenier. Jacobs is now twenty-six years old.

Marcos Coll is approximately eighteen years older but has a similar story. He was born in Madrid in 1976 and started playing harmonica when he was thirteen. He became the harmonica player in Los Reyes del KO (literally The Knockout Kings) with guitarist Adrian Costa, one of the top blues bands in Spain. In 2004 he moved to Berlin and soon became part of that cities blues scene. He is endorsed by the German based Hohner Harmonica Company. Coll has previously released his own two-cd compilation “Under The Wings” including tracks recorded with Buddy Miles, Herb Hardesty, Tino Gonzalez, Sax Gordon and others. In 2016 he recorded “Street Preachin” with guitarist Stefano Ronchi.

Jacobs, vocals, guitar, bass and drums; and Coll, harmonicas; recorded this new album at The Paul Linke Studio in Berlin in 2019. Engineered by Alex Ott and Stefano Ronchi, the album was mixed and mastered by Ronchi. With overdubs they are a four-piece band with an old school spark. Opening with “It Ain’t Safe” written by Clarence Carter and George Jackson and first recorded by Z.Z. Hill in 1972; they are funky and soulful. One is immediately impressed with guitarist Jacobs and how he establishes the rhythm before soloing. “Stranded” credited to Deadric Malone was recorded by Little Junior Parker in 1959. Six more tunes are written by Jacobs including “Going To Berlin”; a live version of which later closes the set. The instrumental “Bluescazorla Boogie” is the only co-write by Jacobs and the harp wielding Coll.

The pair generate that special excitement that we come to expect from seasoned veterans. Then you realize that as young as they are Jacobs and Coll are experienced. Expect to love this one. You will. /Richard Ludmerer, Making A Scene

After eight years as an artistic duo and having toured venues and festivals around the world, they’re back with a 10-song album, also available on CD and vinyl. Through a carefully curated selection of their repertoire, including both original songs and classics, the album distills raw rhythm and blues, elegant soul, furious funk, and authentic blues.

This new album is particularly noteworthy for its creative process. It was recorded live in the studio in a single day, without overdubs or any other processing, just like the old recordings. For this release, they’re joined by Javier Vacas on bass and Brian D. Sauls on drums. The recording took place in Madrid in September 2025 in Jairo Zavala’s (Depedro) own studio, who mixed the whole thing, recovering the purest essence of the 60s and 70s to capture everything the band offers live. /Bluestown Music

Three guitars, three voices, that’s the 18th edition of Ruf’s Blues Caravan which took off in mid-February 2023. Thus carrying on a tradition which was established in 2005 when Thomas Ruf, founder of internationally operating German record company Ruf Records, came up with the idea for this kind of package tour and with Sue Foley, Candye Kane and Ana Popovic sent three of his artists on the road together for the first time. This time the line-up consist of Texan bluesrocker Ally Venable, Chicago-born Berlin resident Will Jacobs and Ashley Sherlock from Manchester in the UK.

Ally Venable was only 19 years old when “Texas Honey”, her debut album for Ruf Records, went on sale in 2019 and together with her then label colleagues Ina Forsman and Katarina Pejak she played her first Blues Caravan tour. In 2021 her second studio album for Ruf titled “Heart Of Fire” followed, and album number three is currently in the making and scheduled for release in early 2023. In addition, the guitarist and singer from Kilgore, East Texas, was featured as a special guest on another Ruf release, Mike Zito’s duet album “Rock’n’Roll: A Tribute To Chuck Berry”, joining Zito for the Berry classic “School Days”. “When I play live,” Ally Venable says about what she wants to achieve on stage, “I want to connect with people and for them to let go of their troubles.”

Will Jacobs hails from that US metropolis whose name is linked to the blues like no other: Chicago, where in the 1950s the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf or Willie Dixon electrified the country blues of the Deep South from which they had migrated to the Windy City. And he too left his own musical thumbprint in the blues clubs of his hometown before after a couple of whistle stops he moved to the German capitol of Berlin where he still lives today. But even if his Ruf debut album “Goldfish Blues” is audibly rooted in the eponymous genre, Jacobs spices his song material with anything that makes his neck tingle. About the album he says: “I’d describe the music as a funky blues experience.”

Ashley Sherlock is a Manchester-based singer and guitarist whose musical career began with solo performances. Asked for his main inspirations, he cites Jeff Buckley, The Marcus King Band, The Cadillac Three, Gary Clark Jr and Chris Stapleton. After lots of solo gigs he decided to form a bluesrock power trio in 2017 with which he has recorded two self-released EPs and a couple of singles so far. His debut album for Ruf Records is scheduled for release in early 2023. About the Blues Caravan he says: “This package tour is something I’ve wanted to take part in for quite some time. I can’t wait to get on the road and play some music!”

Although he is only twenty-nine, guitar player and singer Will Jacobs has a long career behind him. Gone is the time when, as a teenager, Jacobs went to Chicago clubs to back some of the great names playing there. In 2009 he competed at the International Blues Challenge and, since that particular moment, his prestige has not stopped to grow as, not in vain, he also finished his studies at Berklee College Of Music and was asked to play with C.J. Chenier in a good number of tours. In 2016 he travelled for the first time to Europe and, according to his own words, one of the most memorable shows he remembers was the one he performed at the oldest bullfighting arena in the world in Béjar, Spain.

Jacobs has recently broadened his approach to music, something you will appreciate if you listen to this album, he has just published for German label Ruf Records, where he shows a colorful palette of styles that move between rock, funk, soul and experimental blues.

Will Jacobs appears as a skilled guitar player, able to surprise listeners with his fingering, as well as an experienced interesting singer, thanks to the vocal range he develops with taste and reliability along the ten songs that give shape to the recording. He is joined by Stef Rosen on guitar, Matthias Falkenau on organ, Thomas “Tomek” Germann on bass and Brian Sauls on drums.

This legendary showcase tour is now 17 years old, but the concept remains unbeatable and therefore unchanged. Three up-and-coming talents from the most respected blues label in Europe. Three live sets that run the gamut of genres and emotions. And to top it off, a huge jam session where all the artists let loose together - and ask the audience to do the same.

On 09.03.2022, Katie Herny, Will Jacobs and Ghalia Volt did just that! At Café Hahn in Koblenz, these 3 outstanding artists made the audience shake. This CD & DVD immortalises this unique concert and lets the viewer and listener relive a great evening over and over again. Katie Henry is one of a kind. On stage she flits between vocal mike, piano and Gibson SG in a style that encompasses rock, roots, R&B, soul, funk and pop. You might be reminded of Bonnie Raitt for a moment. But it is her very own genuine charisma, her honest songwriting and the musician's impressive skills on two instruments that have earned her her reputation.

Will Jacobs a modern blues R&B/soul artist from Chicago, Illinois, USA. At 28 years old, he is best known for his powerful live performances. Whether he is playing clubs, festivals, performing with other world-class musicians, contesting sessions or composing, Will is always excited to share his passion for music with audiences.

Brussels-born Ghalia Volt has lived and toured in the US for many years and has embraced the original blues like few other European artists. The singer and guitarist first caused a stir as frontwoman of the New Orleans-based Mama's Boys; her 2019 album Mississippi Blend cemented her reputation as an exceptional talent. In early 2021, she released her album One Woman Band, which was recorded at the prestigious Royal Studios in Memphis. An album where she could prove her skills as a multi-instrumentalist.
