Hoochie Coochie Men - Big Blue Tree

Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 28:25
Size: 65.1 MB
Styles: Roots rock, Electric blues
Year: 2015
Art: Front

[4:41] 1. Big Blue Tree
[4:08] 2. Here I Remain
[6:21] 3. Rather Go Blind/Don't Let Me Down
[4:36] 4. Living Alone
[3:25] 5. Things I Know
[5:13] 6. That Evening Train

Hoochie Coochie Men's debut EP, Big Blue Tree was recorded at The Carriage House in Stamford CT. Recorded, Mixed, and Mastered by Brendan Muldowney. This EP features some of Hoochie Coochie Men's original work as well as pays homage to a few of their musical heroes.

Hoochie Coochie Men, a genre-defying blues and folk band, was formed in 2012 in the small town of Easton, PA. Their sound can best be described as Ray Charles singing with Bob Dylan backed by the Allman brother and has been called a “fresh and inspiring take on American roots music” by 8 time Grammy winning composer, Paul Winter.

HCM has recently gained steam and found success all over the northeast playing ticketed shows from D.C. to Portland, Maine and everywhere in between. They consistently fill venues to capacity and have sold hundreds of tickets to some of NYC's most well known venues, including B.B. King's, Stage 48, Sullivan Hall, Rockwood Music Hall, Bowery Electric, Irving Plaza, etc. and have shared the stage with many national acts such as the legendary B.B. King, Badfish, American Babies, Pete Francis of Dispatch, Matt Costa, Toy Soldiers, and many more.

One of the greatest strengths of Hoochie Coochie Men is their musical versatility. Both lead singers bring diverse influences to the table. Zach Gold, from Rhode Island, has deeply immersed himself in the blues and folk of the Mississippi Delta. Joey Tumulty's soulful voice calls to mind Ray Charles or Levon Helm. Lead guitarist, Alex Musso, tastefully crafts soulful and powerful guitar solos calling upon influences from Robert Johnson and Freddie King to Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. Drummer Brian Duke and Bassist Grant Kempski lock together so well you would think they have been playing together for 30 years. Hoochie Coochie Men are a young and fresh take on an ageless style of music. This band is a great site to see and they are soon not to be forgotten.

Jon Lord With The Hoochie Coochie Men - Live At The Basement (3-disc set)

Live At The Basement highlights Jon Lord as the exquisite master of rock'n'blues Hammond. Backed by a low-key blues band, he effortlessly makes his beast weep, roar and whine. The comfortably seated sell-out audience is taken by the hand and lead at a leisurely pace through a competent mixture of traditional blues classics and the odd original song. The show was broadcast live online at the time, and such was the intensity and excitement of the performance that the webcast inspired instant goosebumps in this online viewer on the other side of the globe. As they were held up by a TV appointment, the band arrives late onstage. 'We were live on TV', quibs Lord - 'it's better than being dead on TV!'

The atmosphere soon intensifies as Lord proceeds to mesmerise the crowd with dazzling improvisations thought never to appear again. In particular the passages where he signals for the backing to pause and let him take the lead on his own are entranching. Snatches of Lazy and passages that transport you back to Lord's early career marathon solos abound. Between the songs Jon Lord entertains the crowd with anecdotes from an illustrious career with the odd loving stab at his old soloing opponent Ritchie Blackmore. Sadly an eloquent comment on the then impending war in Iraq has been edited out.
