This collection of tunes takes you on a journey through true Americana styles. Never to be compartmentalized, the music carries a common thread of colorful characters and scenarios that will surely entertain and engage the listener.
Though the Rece Jay Band formed in 2012, its true origins go back much further. Singer and songwriter Rece has been friends with drummer Scott Rongey since they were 13 playing Wishbone Ash, Led Zeppelin and James Gang tunes at Jr High and High School parties. She and bassist Gary Sparling wrote together and performed around the Pacific Northwest in the early '80s. The camaraderie shows onstage. So does their versatility.

"My writing is all over the board. I studied classical as a child and in college I studied and sang jazz and was part of a Las Vegas Style show band. I try to write songs that sound familiar and are dance-able and fun. We take our music very seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. And fortunately the band appreciates my eclectic writing style."

The band includes talented musicians capable of playing nearly any shade of Americana.

The road to the creation of this album had been a long one. For thirty plus years I stepped off of my musical path. But that dream was not to be denied and I've been blessed with the opportunity to follow it now again. I resume it with energy and inspiration that is packed into this music. The stories and characters should be ones that you will relate to. The melodies and rhythms should be ones that you will sing and move to. My love of rock and blues in my youth, my college years playing and studying jazz and swing and my appreciation of country music will all be heard in this collection that makes up our first album. Our desire is to connect in a way that will lift your heart and draw you into the happy, familiar feeling that we share. We hope that it makes you smile!

Auburn-based quintet The Rece Jay Band followed their hearts down many roads in order to explore a variety of musical styles from country and classic R&B to Latin and good old rock n’ roll for the group’s second album, Enjoy the Ride, released in June of 2016. Rece Jay leads the band with her classic vocal style and adventurous songwriting, but makes room for each member to catch the spotlight throughout the record, even adding the solo credits to the album notes.

Recorded by Jonathan Plum at the renowned London Bridge Studios, the album certainly has a big sound. A number of special guests were invited to add to the mix, including saxophonist Teddy Dortch, who steps out from the tasty horn section on the funky “Bills To Pay,” and Seattle blues man Steve Peterson taking over the lead vocal for the lonesome country ballad “No Road to Home.” Rece Jay stretches her vocal skills on the opening track “Pinto Mare,” singing in Spanish and plays up her sultry airs during the bluesy grinder “That Pull.”

She shines the brightest on the surf rock boogaloo “Make Me Shake,” and the piano-driven rock n’ roller “Time To Boogie,” with Rob Gordon ripping up the 88’s. When she is surrounded by the full ten-piece ensemble on the standout track “Room To Breathe,” Rece Jay must certainly be enjoying the ride. ~by Rick Bowen
