That'll Work is a collaborative album by Chuck Berry's pianist Johnnie Johnson together with The Kentucky Headhunters. It was released 1993, and it comprised twelve songs which Johnson and the band wrote over the course of four days. The album featured Johnson on piano, as well as lead vocals on the title track and one other song. Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie also played harmonica and saxophone and sang backing vocals. /Wikipedia

The Kentucky Headhunters are about to release their brand-new album ‘That’s a Fact Jack!’ and if you’re already a fan then you’re in for a real treat. If you’re not already a fan then you will be soon! This 12-track album is the very first on their own label too – Practice House Records, and contains eleven all-new songs, each penned by The Kentucky Headhunters, plus one cover tune: Rick Derringer’s ‘Cheap Tequila’…

The title might well remind people of a certain age of the movie ‘Stripes’ featuring Bill Murray, but this is a seriously good album that takes all that you love about the Headhunter’s blend of honky-tonk, blues, and southern rock and runs with it. There’s plenty of passion throughout, some sublime guitar work and vocals then more than ice the cake.

Opening with the brooding bluesy rock of ‘It’s Gonna Be Alright’ I’m already won over and when that solo cuts in the deal is sealed. The rock solid country swagger and barroom boogie of single ‘How Could I?’ follows, and by the strangely Tom Petty-meets the blues of ‘Water Colors in the Rain’ you’ll be hooked.

There’s so much more though – take the wonderful semi-ballad ‘Susannah’ or the gentle Orbison meets Americana ‘Cup of Tea’ or the stomp of ‘We Belong Together’ which has a wonderfully soulful vocal and is definitely one of my top picks.

And if you’re still not completely full then try the gritty plea to a broken planet and title track ‘That’s A Fact Jack’ or the gentle Blues of ‘Lonely too Long’ which sports some wonderful guitar and keys. The Rock and Roll Countrified hop of ‘Heart and Soul’ adds yet another flavour. But it’s the final three that really seal it for me – first ‘Cheap Tequila’ with its Southern Blues and Roots caress, before ‘Shotgun Effie’ adds a straight shot of Rock to the pot and it all comes to a boil with the laid back humour of ‘Let’s All Get Together and Fight’ a wonderful Southern Holiday song! You’ll love it!

Live At The Ramblin' Man Fair, the new album from Grammy-winning band The Kentucky Headhunters. The band -- guitarist/vocalist Richard Young, his brother drummer Fred Young, guitarist Greg Martin and bassist/vocalist Doug Phelps --- had never before been to Europe in their 30-plus year career. This set, recorded at The Ramblin' Man Fair in Maidstone, UK, captures them at the height of their powers.

Live At The Ramblin' Man Fair finds the band blazing through a 10-song set in front of 25,000 screaming UK fans. Combining old-school blues and blistering Southern rock with country overtones, The Kentucky Headhunters cross borders and genres with ease, as the elated UK audience roars its collective approval throughout the concert. The album closes with three recently rediscovered studio tracks from the legendary Meet Me In Bluesland sessions featuring late blues piano icon Johnnie Johnson (known for his seminal piano work driving Chuck Berry’s most famous songs).

Although The Kentucky Headhunters have been recording and touring together for over 30 years (and making music together for over 50 years), they had never, until 2016, performed overseas. That year, Richard—a notoriously uneasy flier—let his son John Fred (drummer for internationally beloved hard rock group Black Stone Cherry) talk him into bringing The Kentucky Headhunters to Europe. A tour of Sweden and the United Kingdom was booked, and the band was on its way to earning a whole new audience for their raucous and rowdy music.

Since their multiple award-winning debut album in 1989, Pickin' On Nashville (Mercury), the band has released 12 more albums with total sales reaching over 11 million. Constant touring has kept the band busy and each new release has kept them in high demand. 2015’s Alligator CD, Meet Me In Bluesland (recorded in 2003 with Johnnie Johnson), brought the band to the attention of many new fans. No Depression called the album, “A raucous, rockin’ romp that’ll put a big ole grin on your face. Johnson pounds out licks like a wrecking ball.” The Wall Street Journal called it, “a collection of rollicking, loose-limbed songs rooted in the blues and vintage-style rock ‘n’ roll.”

2016’s On Safari (Plowboy Records) led to the band’s first European tour and in turn to the album Live At The Ramblin’ Man Fair, their second career live album. “Truth is,” says Richard, “we didn’t even know we were being recorded. I found out later the festival folks recorded our whole set. After hearing it, I knew it captured us exactly as we really are, and I knew we had to release it.” With the new album and another UK/European tour in the works, The Kentucky Headhunters are excited to visit their new friends and fans across the ocean, as well as hitting the highway across the U.S. and Canada.

Whether they’re turning Southern rock fans on to blues or turning blues fans on to Southern rock, The Kentucky Headhunters are simply thrilled to be enriching the lives of so many music fans for so many years. The Kentucky Headhunters created a hybrid of honky tonk, blues, and Southern rock that appealed to fans of both rock and country music. The origins of the Kentucky Headhunters lie in 1968, when Fred and Richard Young began playing together with their cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney at the Youngs' grandmother's house. Mark Orr also later joined them. The first incarnation of the band was called the Itchy Brothers, and the group played together informally for over a decade. After about 13 years, the bandmembers began launching separate careers: Richard Young went off to write songs for Acuff-Rose, while Fred Young began touring with country beauty Sylvia. Martin became a member of Ronnie McDowell's band, while Kenney dropped out of music. In 1985, Martin decided to reassemble the Itchy Brothers. When Kenney declined to rejoin the group, Martin remembered Doug Phelps, whom he had met while on tour with McDowell. Phelps joined the new project, which was named the Kentucky Headhunters. The Kentucky Headhunters is an American country rock band. It was founded in 1968 as Itchy Brother, which comprised brothers Richard Young (rhythm guitar, vocals) and Fred Young (drums) along with Greg Martin (lead guitar, vocals) and Anthony Kenney (bass guitar, vocals). The Young brothers and Martin began performing as The Kentucky Headhunters in 1986, adding brothers Ricky Lee Phelps (lead vocals, harmonica) and Doug Phelps (bass guitar, backing vocals) to the membership.

With the release of its 1989 debut album Pickin' on Nashville via Mercury Records, the band charted four consecutive Top 40 country singles. A second album for Mercury, Electric Barnyard, did not do as well commercially, and the Phelps brothers left after its release to form Brother Phelps. Kenney re-joined and Mark S. Orr took over on lead vocals for 1993's Rave On!! and a compilation album entitled The Best of The Kentucky Headhunters: Still Pickin' before the band exited Mercury. Orr left and Doug Phelps rejoined in 1996 as lead vocalist for the album Stompin' Grounds. He also led on the Audium Entertainment albums Songs from the Grass String Ranch and Soul, as well as Big Boss Man and a second compilation, Flying Under the Radar, on CBuJ Entertainment. After Kenney's departure, Doug once again became the band's bass guitarist.

The Kentucky Headhunters has released seven studio albums, two compilations, and twenty singles, of which the highest-peaking is a cover of the Don Gibson song "Oh Lonesome Me," which the band took to #8 in 1990. In addition, the band has won three Country Music Association awards, an Academy of Country Music award and a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, won in 1990 for Pickin' on Nashville.
