Meena first played in a band when she was fifteen. She developed into a wanderlust type and studied in Africa, the United States and Vienna, among other places. In the US, Chicago stole her heart for its atmosphere and blues music. Because of her temperament and good voice, several people wanted to make her a second Tina Turner or Janis Joplin, but when Thomas Ruf came across her it was the blues that would determine her life. On the CD 'Try Me' we hear a singer with a beautiful, sometimes somewhat melancholy voice. Most of the songs have a calm and compelling tempo. The title song is a good example of this. There are also several beautiful guitar solos on this CD by Coco Montoya, Eric Sardinas, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Erja Lyytinen and Chris Fillmore. These kind of solos are always very pleasant to listen to and never get boring. A well-known cover on this disc is 'I'd Rather Go Blind'. It may not be the most beautiful version I know of this song, but this version is very beautiful and penetrating. 'Try me' is a CD that is more than worth listening to.

Meena Cryle, born in 1977, was born with the music. She played in her first band when she was fifteen years old. Due to her wanderlust character, she traveled to Africa and the US until she finally settled in Vienna. With her long-term partner Chris Fillmore on guitar, after her debut "Try Me" two years ago, she has now released her second album "Feel Me". Ten of the twelve songs are own compositions. In addition to the aforementioned Fillmore on guitar, she is supported by drummer Jamie Little, who also produced the CD, bassists Marlene Lacherstorfer and Roger Innis. In addition, the keyboards are operated by Markus Marageter and Werner Wurm, Sebastian Grimus and Manfred Holzacker together form the horn section. And together they have delivered an album that I can recommend effortlessly. It has become a varied mix of blues, blues rock, ballads and soul. Meena has a beautiful voice with an excellent range and is able to use it for both heavy rock work and soulful ballads. Chris' guitar work is excellent to say the least and he masters the slide and normal guitar technique, electric and acoustic and always knows how to use this in an appropriate way. Striking songs include the well-known from Kiss “I Was Made For Loving You”, which gets its own version here, and “Come To Mama” by Etta James. Worth mentioning are the own songs “Beg Like A Sinner” with floating slide work by Chris, the classic blues sound of “Stay Away From Me Baby” and the title song “Feel Me” which exudes southern soul.

Meena Cryle & The Chris Fillmore Band create an exceptionally honest and exciting brand of music.
Southern Soul, Blues, Gospel and Rock'n'Roll are the labels most commonly used to describe this stand-out formation from Austria. But the band prefers to avoid clichés and pigeonholing.
Cryle/Fillmore’s Roots-Cosmos is wide-ranging and eclectic but always deeply rooted in the Blues.
This also shows in their songwriting, an indispensable part of a distinctive and unique musical identity.
Chris Fillmore, a exceptionally gifted guitar-player, plays a far more important role for the overall musical concept than just being a supportive piece of the band’s whole. He acts as a pivotal figure, an anchor which allows the singer to freely explore, and a safe-haven she can return to again.
Both form a team that, in its intensity, is an exceptional and rare thing in today’s Blues-scene.

MEENA CRYLE & The Chris Fillmore Band, led by singer Meena Cryle and guitar virtuoso Chris Fillmore, are fresh off of their January 2017 release of "In Concert", their debut album for "Continental Blue Heaven/CRS".
The blistering performances collected on Meena Cryle & The Chris Fillmore Band - In Concert span their gigs at clubs, theatres and festivals from the past 18 months of non-stop touring. Early listeners have called this the band's best work yet.
Their three highly successful releases on german top Blues label "Ruf Records", extensive tours in Europe and USA, as well as recent highlights like a sold-out show at the Vienna Opera House or their performance at the "Peer Blues Festival" (together with acts like Buddy Guy, Walter Trout, ...) proves their stand in today`s roots music scene.
Producer legend Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, Santana,...) once praised Cryle as "one of the best singers I`ve worked with in 20 years. She is what we call in the business an `old soul`. She`s got the voice and she`s got the passion..."
There is an inherent magic that occurs when Meena Cryle & Chris Fillmore take the stage each night. It is an organic, spontaneous, and almost mystical experience to witness.

Meena Cryle (voc./acoustic guit.), Chris Fillmore (electric & acoustic guitars, banjo, slide guitar, piano), Marlene Lacherstorfer (bass) and Frank Cortez (drums) are four talented young artists who create an exceptionally honest and exciting brand of music. Southern Soul, Blues and Rock'n'Roll are the labels most commonly used to describe this stand-out formation from Austria. But the band prefers to avoid clichés and pigeonholing. Their experience on tour and in the studio, both in Europe and the USA, has given them the confidence to follow their own muse. The result is Tell Me, a compelling new album with twelve songs that come straight from the heart.
Meena Cryle and Chris Fillmore, the group's songwriting team, share a deep artistic connection that goes back more than 20 years. Today their understanding is nothing less than intuitive. "Chris and I are like Jagger and Richards or Ike & Tina Turner," says singer Cryle. They recorded their debut album Try Me outside Memphis in the summer of 2009; the collaboration with legendary producer Jim Gaines (Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker) and a slew of top-class guest artists was a huge challenge and important stepping stone. Their strong follow-up Feel Me was released in 2011 and marked the first appearance of bassist Marlene Lacherstorfer. She and drummer Frank Cortez have been the backbone of the band for the past three years.
Meena Cryle & The Chris Fillmore Band were runners-up at the European Blues Challenge 2011 in Berlin and went on to receive accolades from the jury and audience at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2013. That same year, Meena was also nominated for the Amadeus - Austrian Music Award.
After more than 200 concerts in the current line-up, the band decided it didn't need any help from session musicians in making their third record. "The past two years," reports front woman Meena, "have turned us into a tough, tight unit. The other members of the band know my every move and understand every tiny signal, so they know how to follow my emotions. They give me the perfect musical framework and are all great musicians." Because they wanted Tell Me to be an album without limits, the band chose to work with Berlin-based producer Raphael Tschernuth. During the extremely intense sessions at the Golden Retriever Studio, their new producer helped them put that wish into practice. "I've known Raphael since I was a kid and have worked on a number of projects with him in the past. We know each other inside and out and complement each other perfectly. This gave all of us more confidence to try out new things, to experiment more, and to play with more freedom," says Chris Fillmore with satisfaction.
The easy, organic feel of the twelve songs on Tell Me truly does reflect that newfound sense of self-confidence. The album features rock-oriented cuts ("Enough is Enough"), deeply soulful grooves ("I Beg You" – which sounds like a mixture of John Lee Hooker and Foo Fighters), high-spirited songs that recall the spirit of Sun Records ("Give It Back," "Take This Pressure Off Of Me") – but regardless of style, all four band members play with passion and commitment. Thanks to the use of analogue recording equipment and rare ribbon microphones from the 1930s, Meena's powerful voice sounds richer and more natural than ever before. Her partner Chris Fillmore demonstrates once again that he's more than just an outstanding guitar player; as songwriter, arranger and co-producer, he forms – together with Meena – the foundation of the band. The energy that flows between the two soul mates makes Tell Me a uniquely gripping listening experience.
Meena Cryle believes in the transcendent power of music. "I don't think when I sing," she says. In the process, she also allows her listeners to escape from reality – at least for a little while. Her next tour with the Chris Fillmore Band is set to begin in March 2014. Diehard blues fans, Meena supporters or anyone interested in hearing good, honest music should mark those dates on the calendar. Or, as the artist puts it herself: "Anyone who wants to go on a trip with me is more than welcome."
