What are some of those unnoticed gems in blues rock and then I'm talking about the band LOWER CASE BLUES, founded in 2003 and originating from the state of Delaware in the USA. I came across this power trio through their excellent live CD "Live at Dogfish Head" and now there is the new album entitled TAKE IT FOR A RIDE. The band consists of the two permanent group members Jake Banaszak (guitar) and B.J. Muntz (bass/vocals). They play with a changing drum line-up but mainly that is Paul Weik. This new album is full of 10 self-written top blues rock songs in which the leading role is reserved for that fantastic guitarist (he plays a Fender Strat) who scatters with wonderful solos. This Jake started playing guitar at the age of 12 and through his guitar teacher he discovered the blues in the 90s. With his father he visited a blues club at the age of 15 where Larry Garner was performing at that time, became friends with him and since then blues has been the order of the day. As examples he mentions SRV, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Hendrix, Robin Trower, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Roy Buchanan.
The CD has no weak song and the tight rhythm section, excellent vocals and of course that guitarist keep you glued to your stereo system for the entire playing time. Listen to ‘Take it for a ride’, ‘Couldn’t get to sleep’, ‘Blues no more’ (Walter Trout-like solo), the languid ‘Move on’ and the funky-like ‘Peace of mind’ and ‘Be there soon’.
For every lover of nice guitar blues this is an absolute must.
