Born and raised in the south, E.G. Kight's whole life has revolved around music. Her early years were influenced by her mother's involvement in Gospel music, her grandfather's presence in the ministry, her uncle's position as choir director, and guitar lessons from her grandma, starting at age four. Through the years, E.G. has travelled extensively, performing her special blend of country and blues, earning her the title "Georgia Songbird". In recent years she has delved deep into the blues and has developed a golden throat style of her own. Her unique talent has also earned her a spot in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.

It’s pretty hard to forget the first time I met EG Kight because it was the night of my first time going to the W.C. Handy Awards – May 25, 2000. Yep, it was way back before the event ever became known as the Blues Music Awards. On that night a great friendship blossomed into twenty-one years of fond memories – just a few of which include: booking her and her band at many events; cooking for her and her band on a few occasions; and this very special night, which is worthy of sharing – EG Kight Blue Bayou Club – Blues Show Review. So now that I’ve told you about how crazy I am over this lady and her band, let me now tell you about how crazy I am over this new album.
Since 1997, when EG came to us from country music with a blues debut that was appropriately titled “Come Into The Blues”, “The Trio Sessions” is her ninth release in the genre. For the project – guitarist, singer, songwriter and Blues Music Award nominee – EG Kight is joined by two of her long time band mates: Ken Wynn on lead guitar, dobro and background vocals; and Gary Porter on drums, percussion, harmonica and background vocals. Additionally, special guest Sean Williams plays bass on several tracks.
“The Trio Sessions” contains ten tracks and of the seven originals: three are penned by EG; one is a collaboration with Johnny Neel; and three are collaborations with her long time friend and writing partner, Blues Music Award nominee, Tom Horner. ~Peter “Blewzzman” Lauro

EG Kight - Takin' It Easy

Year: 2004
Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 48:10
Size: 110,7 MB
Styles: Blues, jazzy blues
Scans: Full

1. I'll Believe It When I Feel It (4:07)
2. Nothin' Ever Hurt Me (4:07)
3. I Don't Wanna Start Over (3:27)
4. When You Were Mine (3:38)
5. I Ain't Got Nothin' But The Blues (3:03)
6. Can't Blame Nobody But Me (4:27)
7. Peach Pickin' Mama (3:17)
8. Southbound (4:41)
9. Coming Out Of The Pain (4:47)
10. I Ain't Got No Business Doin' Business Today (3:20)
11. Stay Awhile (4:16)
12. Takin' It Easy (4:55)

Anyone who can cover Duke Ellington and the Allman Brothers on the same disc and make both fit seamlessly into the whole has something going for them. And former country singer E.G. Kight certainly does it all right on Takin' It Easy. By using a mostly acoustic setting for her songs - both original and covers - she puts the emphasis exactly where it should be - quite squarely on her vocals. As she's often proved since turning to the blues in 1995, she has a remarkably soulful lilt to her voice, and it shines very well on "Wish You Were Here" and "Southbound."

She's also developed into an adept writer, whether it's on the relaxed bear-it-all of the title track or "Nothin' Ever Hurt Me." Backed by an excellent band, and with guests who are sometimes surprising (such as Chris Hicks from the Marshall Tucker Band), she's turned in a piece of work that shows her continuing to grow as singer, songwriter, and artist. /Chris Nickson, AllMusic

EG Kight - It's Hot In Here

Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 52:29
Size: 120.1 MB
Styles: Electric blues
Year: 2008
Art: Front

[3:44] 1. I Want You Just Cause I Want You
[3:23] 2. It's Hot In Here
[4:42] 3. I'm New At This
[3:51] 4. Then There's the Truth
[4:23] 5. Roses and Promises
[4:55] 6. Pass the Plate
[4:37] 7. Sugar
[4:46] 8. Through the Eyes of a Child
[3:40] 9. Love Me or Let Me Go
[4:10] 10. Southern Woman and a Nawthern Man
[6:13] 11. House of the Rising Sun
[3:59] 12. You Can't Take It With You

EG Kight's It's Hot In Here features EG's blazing guitar work and fiery, resonant voice. All but one of the songs are originals and some are frankly sexual, like Sugar and Southern Woman and a Nawthern Man. The CD is a tour de force for EG's amazing songwriting and vocals. She has a distinctive voice. It has a quavery quality that makes some critics compare her to Phoebe Snow. Others hear shades of Patsy Cline in her flinty Southern accent. But there's an element of her idol, KokoTaylor, in it as well. In fact, Kight's appropriation of Taylor's 'red-hot mama' singing persona, with its growls and moans, is one of the reasons I've never really considered the Georgia singer a very distinctive performer. Until now, that is. It may seem incongruous, especially considering the title of her new CD, 'It's Hot in Here,' due out next month on MC Records, but there's less of the stereotypical hot blues mama and more of EG Kight on her new recording than anything I've heard from her up to now.

To be sure, there's some of the old Kight the title tune, with its smoking guitar licks, is a good example but she has branched out to other areas with superb results.

EG Kight - 2 albums: Trouble / Southern Comfort

EG Kight’s musical style transcends musical boundaries and has been called “country-flavored southern-fried blues”. With a blend of americana, southern rock, blues, pop, jazz, gospel and funk, she is helping to shape contemporary blues. A veteran of the road, Kight headlines at clubs, theaters and festivals, bringing her diverse musical menu to the fans across America and in Europe.

Early in her career, Kight was dubbed “The Georgia Songbird”, and today she is considered one of the few true blues vocalists. With her rich voice, and a mastery of the guitar that has her holding her own next to any other player, Kight mesmerizes audiences of all ages, both as a solo and with her band. And Taylor Guitars proudly provides her with the tools of her trade.

In the last year, Kight has worked two shows with B.B. King, produced an album for an Americana artist, and was involved in international fundraising in Japan and Mexico. Kight’s songwriting savvy has led her to teach songwriting workshops in Italy and Germany. And she has been tapped to write for and produce more albums for other artists.

EG Kight continues to help shape contemporary blues with her latest album, A New Day, released on September 16th. Once again co-producing with Paul Hornsby (Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, etc.), Kight relied heavily on her touring band for arrangements on this disc and the result has helped her reach the pinnacle of her musical mastery. She also enlisted special guests Greg Nagy, Tommy Talton, Randall Bramblett, and Paul Hornsby on keyboards to help round out the album. Ranging from sassy straight-ahead blues, to a gospel anthem, to her trademark ballads, this CD provides listeners with a delectably varied menu that will leave them with a sweet taste in their mouths.

After a life threatening illness a few years back Kight is grateful to be alive. "A year after the illness I was finally able to write songs again and they seem to flow from a deeper place. Several of these songs came from the 'new me'. I hope the songs inspire and help you along your path. Thanks to the good Lord and my music, I seem to be healing and on my way to a new normal. Every day of my life now is 'A New Day'."

[3:18] 10. Trouble (Feat. Eg Kight, Ken Wynn & Paul Hornsby)
[3:50] 11. Bad Girl (Feat. Randall Bramblett & Ken Wynn)

When Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck play guitar, the line between man and instrument is blurred. When John Popper blows harp, the hair standing up on my arm tells me that I’m witnessing someone doing what they were put on this earth to do. With Lisa Biales, her purpose is to sing the blues. It was something I sensed immediately on Just Like Honey then Singing In my Soul, both of which lead up to her choice new album Belle Of The Blues.

As a singer Biales comes across as equal parts good-natured speakeasy vixen and soulful southern torch balladeer. Produced by EG Kight and engineered by Paul Hornsby, this album compares to Maria Muldaur’s Memphis Minnie tribute from a year or two back. Performances from the musicians are joyous lessons in how to groove, not unlike Biales herself. Featured guests are the amazing Tommy Talton on guitar (Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts), Randall Bramblett on Hammond B-3 (Sea Level, Steve Winwood, Widespread Panic) and Bill Stewart on drums (Gregg Allman, Bonnie Bramlett), and they play like they’ve been doing it together for years- on that gut-level instinctual plane.

“I love singing sad songs” Lisa confesses. “The strong array of emotions that bubble up, and the connections I feel to people while singing them makes me realize my worth”, referring directly to Mask and Sad, Sad Sunday. She considers Bessie Smith an influence, and it shows. She calls Smith “One of the greatest classic blues singers of the 1920’s, and someone I have grown to admire. It’s only fitting to have her presence on this recording with two songs; Black & White Blues and Baby Won’t You Please Come Home.”
