Picking up on the decadent image and rowdy approach of vintage blues acts, guitarist Big Daddy G (known to his mother as Dave Glover) began making a splash around the turn of the century. The club circuit had shaped his music into a fiery attack before any records had been released, and a chance meeting with organist/singer Tortoise Blue gave Big Daddy G the chance to form a strong band around his playing. In 1998, 4 Blues became the first recorded effort from the duo.
A tribute to a deceased bandmate as well as a rough first effort, the uneven album led to the far superior Topless in 2000. Nominated for a Juno Award that year, the roaring album became a hit with blues audiences and the accolades began pouring in. A strong live act as well, Big Daddy G began scoring spots at several Canadian blues festivals while putting together their first live album. Entitled Blue Sound, the record captured their energetic stage show accurately and gave Big Daddy G the chance to explore his own songs a little more. /Biography by Bradley Torreano, AllMusic
