Javier is one amazing guitarist and Texas Tango is without doubt his finest hour (Definitely when it concerns the Blues).Vargas Blues Band CDs usually have at least one Latino tune in the Santana field. This CD is 100% Blues Mastery. Rose on the Water is more in the Rock vein, but then we are taken into the Classic "Blues Pilgimage". The vocals of Jeff Espinoza are deep and soulful.Title Track "Texas Tango" could easily be called Texas Boogie. It will definitely remind you of Classic early ZZ Top (Vocals included). Scorching guitar follows. "Love aint got nowhere to go" is a slow moody BB Kingish style tune that is accompanied by Background Organ. "Ride baby Ride" featuring Double Trouble, is start to finish 100% Rocking headbanging boogie. Love it ! "Black Cat Boogie" is another classic and always features on the VBB live set-list.Wicked harp playing from Jeff Espinoza and female backing vocals. I have this song on Video from Montreux from about 7 years ago and the harp jam vibe was a sight to see. "1969" is another slowish soft starting song that builds in intensity. The song obviously pays homage to the hippy-flower power era, and there are nice touches of Hendrix notes in there for nostalgic purposes."Riding High" is an absolute killer. Javier really in mindblowing form here (At times you will think of Eddie Van Halen). The Keyboards ably back the guitar here. The remaining songs will bring you back down to earth with the very mellow "Thinking of you" and "Buenos Aires Blues" and the Standard Blues of "Big Boss Man" "253" and "Blood Shot". It is no wonder that the greatest Blues Backing band (Double Trouble) were quick to play with Mr Vargas. Other Blues legends have also featured on VBB CDs and at live concerts including Lonnie Brooks/Larry McCray/Sugar Blue/Chris Rea to name just a few. It will be very hard for the Vargas Blues Band to top this almost perfect recording. ~Paul Watson

Javier Vargas, the son of Spanish emigrants to Argentina, was born in Madrid soon after his parents left Buenos Aires. When he was nine years old, the family moved back to Argentina, which is where he started playing the guitar. In the 1980s he returned to Spain and became a member of Miguel Ríos‚ band, playing the guitar in several of his albums. He also played with La Orquesta Mondragón, and worked as a session guitar player and composer.

In 1991 he took the most important step of his career and formed his own band. All Around Blues was the first album recorded by Javier Vargas as the leader of the Vargas Blues Band. Madrid-Memphis was released in 1992. This second album includes contributions from bluesmen such as Carey Bell and Louisiana Red, flamenco guitar player Rafael Riqueni, and singers Philip Guttman and Jeff Espinoza. These two albums made a great impact and achieved record sales figures for blues albums in Spain.

The third album, Blues Latino, was released in Spain in 1994. It includes contributions from Flaco Jiménez, Chris Rea, Junior Wells, and Andrés Calamaro. The album was extraordinarily well-received by a greatly varied audience. It was also released in Argentina and, as a result of the success it had there, the Vargas Blues band performed in Buenos Aires to great critical and public acclaim.

Javier Vargas was born in Madrid shortly after his parents had left Buenos Aires where they had migrated some years before. Nine years later, the family returned to Argentina and it is there where Javier started playing the guitar. His first musical influences can be traced to Argentine rock of the late 60’s and early 70’s, bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Cream, Rolling Stones, The Doors, and musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana or B.B.King, who are powerful sources of inspiration still today.

In the 70’s, Javier decided to go to the U.S to study music. He lived in Nashville, Tennessee, and in Los Angeles, he played in clubs and took part in recordings as a session guitarist. Each night he played in jam sessions with American and English artists and met important musicians like Alvin Lee, Roy Buchanan, Canned Heat, who also influenced his style. He returned to Spain in the 80’s, joined Miguel Rios’ band and took part in several albums – Los Viejos Rockeros Nunca Mueren, Rock and Roll Boomerang, Rock and Rios – signing many songs such as Un Caballo Llamado Muerte, Generación Límite, or Nueva Ola. He also played with Orquesta Mondragón and worked as session musician and composer.

Following up from last years Heavy City Blues , The Vargas Blues band are hot out of their local studios in Madrid, with what looks like their best album to date. Early reactions from music critics and fans towards the new release, creatively named From The Dark , have been nothing short of incredible, which can only help spread the trademark Bluesy slide guitar style and song writing talents of this Hispanic Blues Rock legend. Javier Vargas is no stranger to large audiences worldwide, sharing stages with everyone from Santana to The artist formerly known as Prince as well as having multiple studio collaborations with the likes of Chris Rea, Frank Marino, Pat Travers, Junior Wells, Glen Hughes, Jack Bruce & Devon Allman to name a few. From the Dark is a production created from a field of material which he's been working on for the last few years and the end result, will not disappoint.

The Vargas Blues Band will be touring the UK as special guests on The Quireboys 30th Anniversary World Tour this November as well as appearing on the HRH Blues stage at Hard Rock Hell 8 this November.
