EB Davis, one of Arkansas' great soul-blues singers, has a great CD out - EB Davis & The Superband: Live At The A-Trane Berlin - recorded before an enthusiastic crowd in the German capital where he has lived for many years. He'll remind you of Junior Parker (another former Arkansas resident), but you can hear traces in his voice of other great Arkansas performers he heard while growing up in the Delta in the 1950s and 1960s. The band is made up of both American and German musicians, including Davis' wife Nina on piano, organ and vocal. This CD presents a rollicking good time that will appeal to many blues fans.

EB Davis, the Ambassador of the Blues. A name that EB Davis has earned through a long life and career in the Blues. In June 2008 he was given the title of official Blues Ambassador to the state of Arkansas and the German Rock and Pop Association voted him the best R&B singer in Europe for the same year. For more than 40 years the charismatic Blues and Soul artist has delighted audiences around the globe.

Born in the Arkansas Delta and growing up in Memphis, and then on to New York where he grounded his first band, the legendary Soul Groovers. He made regular appearances at the Apollo Theatre and toured the states sharing the stage with Wilson Pickett, Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, Millie Jackson, B:B: King, etc. etc. The band broke up in the late seventies with various members remaining with Isaac Hayes and EB coming to Europe for the first time as a replacement singer with the Drifters. One thing led to another and he was invited to Berlin to front a very popular German-American big band. The Bayou Band was quite successful on the European circuit with EB out front so he decided to remain in Europe. He later formed The Superband in Berlin with various American artists and the Berlin born Blues piano player Nina T. Davis which he regularly tours with today. He makes yearly trips to the US where he has a fan base and is a regular at the Arkansas Blues and Heritage fest. He was recently written up as the best voice of the fest by the Arkansas Leader.

EB Davis is an elegant classic Blues singer with a powerful voice, who can just as easily tackle a Roy Brown number as he can do a James Brown song. Davis brings the great Bobby Bland to mind. Live his commanding presence takes control of both his band and the audience, and though dancing all over the stage, he still uses his vocal chords to the maximum. He intersperses high-energy up-tempo numbers with some intimate slow Blues.

Here Davis is backed by The Greyhound Blues Band. Firmly established on the European Blues-circuit, playing their own style of what they call “doggone” Chicago Blues, the Greyhound Blues Band originally acquired a solid reputation backing, or sharing the stage with visiting American Blues musicians such as: Henry Gray, Aaron Burton, Louisiana Red, R.L. Burnside, Greg Copeland, and EB Davis.

Recording information: Wiggo's Audio Support, Roderesch, Holland (02/08/1999). EB Davis (vocals); Johan Meijer (vocals, guitar); Martin Hartsteen (guitar); Willie Pollock (alto saxophone); George Snijder (drums).
