03. Finally Free (2:41)

07. Raise Your Hand (2:30)
08. Down In His Room (4:14)
09. Because Of You (4:24)
10. What Can I Do (3:58)

Mike Andersen opens up his 9th album with a bang: a self biographical song, 'Slamming The Door'. A humorous piece about being aware of what kind of person you want to become, both in music and in life before you actually end up slamming a door you should have left open.

"I've been writing sad songs so long, and then it struck me: The only way to survive emotionally in these turbulent times is to embrace the chaos weve been thrown into and accept the fact that, Yes, we all get messed up sometimes but that's ok. We can face this together"

It was out of this, that the title song 'Raise your Hand' was born. The sound of this song is different from the rest of the album, -being more old school with upright bass and horns, different from we've been accustomed to hearing from Mike and the band.

The rest of the album moves effortlessly through the myriad of genres we know from earlier Mike Andersen Band albums: A personal mix of the blues and soul music Mike fell in love with at an early age, but without the tyranny of "genre dogma". Mike and the band demonstrates increasing inspiration from from today's music.

With these 10 new original songs, Mike Andersen (at the ripe age of 44) takes us through the life stories of a man who has made it halfway.

From the tale of a guy who is so beaten by life's hardships, that he fears he may not be able to get up again after another bout; to a song about those days when good energy streaming through our bodies, makes even the most hopeless dancer jump up on the dance floor and dance like he's never done anything else.

From the paradox of a coffee date at midnight; to magical moments when we break free from our worries and concerns; to the "murder ballad" of a man who fantasizes about emptying both barrels af a shotgun into the man his loved one betrayed him with.
Mike Andersen's characteristic voice, his intense guitar phrasing, and not the least, the fantastic band he's had on the road for more than ten years, have created an album of natural practiced elegance. To capture this nearness and authenticity, the album was recorded 'live in the studio' on analog tape.

Mike Andersen (born Mikkel Dybdal Andersen, February 25, 1977, Rødekro, Denmark) is a Danish blues and soul songwriter, guitarist, singer and bandleader of the Mike Andersen Band.

Already at 12 years of age, blues, rhythm & blues and African-American music had taken a firm grip on Andersen. While everyone around him in Denmark was listening to a mix of Wham, Duran Duran and Madonna, he practised guitar along with the LPs of Lightning Hopkins, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Otis Rush and many more. Later, as Andersen focused on voices and words he ventured into the soul stars and Al Green, Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye were added to his collection of vinyl.

At 20, Andersen met the blues guitarist Otis Grand. Otis and his six piece band perfectly framed the music Mike had listened to his whole life, from raw urban blues to 1960s soul. Grand invited the young Andersen to one of his major shows in England where he participated as a guitarist in The Otis Grand All Star Revue at the 'The Great British R & B Festival in Colne, England. When Andersen returned home to Denmark he had a firm resolve to form a six piece blues and soul band of his own.

Knocking around the blues and soul scene of Aarhus, Andersen soon cranked up his 'Blues Crew' band and quickly caught the attention of older, more established Danish musicians. Soon he formed 'The Mike Andersen Band' whose first album, My Love for the Blues was released in 2002 as one of the last 15 years most striking Danish blues albums. It was imprinted with the relentless uncompromising attitude which has characterized his career since.

When Mike Andersen made his first footprints on the Danish blues and soul scene with the album “My Love For The Blues” in 2002, he demonstrated a constant commitment and vision of sustained musical development. His love for soul music has over the years shone through more and more, and that particular passion was very evident in his breakthrough 2010 album “Echoes”. That album received five stars in the nation’s leading newspaper (Politiken); then, it was voted in the top ten of the year’s most significant albums by the listeners of Danish Radio’s Program Four; and as the honors piled up “Echoes” was nominated in all three (Grammy-like) Danish Music Awards categories for 2011.

Turning 35 years old and feeling the need for new directions, Mike assembled a mostly new crew of Aarhus musicians he had admired over the years for the 2012 album “Mike Andersen”. Very pleased these musicians joined his band, Mike fully appreciates and integrates their new inspiration and sound into this album. The joy and lively vitality so evident in this fourth full-length album extends into his cover of “white man’s music”, the Beatles’ 1969 hit “Something”. The stirring performance of this classic shows great empathy and abiding respect for the song’s writer, George Harrison.

Mike’s musical curiosity and desire to explore new pastures also led to a long-distance collaboration with two Jamaican background singers, Nicole “Nikki” Burt and Abbygayedallas. They provided tremendous vocal talents to the full-swing soul gem “You Do not Need Me” and Nikki’s duet with Mike on “Hey Baby”.

Mike Andersen (born Mikkel Dybdal Andersen, February 25, 1977, Aarhus, Denmark) is a Danish blues and soul songwriter, guitarist, singer and bandleader of the Mike Andersen Band.

Already at 12 years old blues, rhythm & blues and African-American music had taken a firm grip on Mike Andersen. At 20, Mike met the blues guitarist Otis Grand. Otis and his six piece band perfectly framed the music Mike had listened to his whole life, from raw urban blues to sweaty '60s soul. Otis invited the young Mike Andersen to one of his major shows in England where he participated as a guitarist in The Otis Grand All Star Revue at the 'The Great British R & B Festival in Colne, England. When Mike returned home to Denmark he had a firm resolve to form a six piece blues and soul band of his own.

Knocking around the blues and soul scene of Aarhus, Mike soon cranked up his Blues Crew band and quickly caught the attention of older, more established Danish musicians. Soon he formed The Mike Andersen Band whose first album, My Love For The Blues was released in 2002 as one of the last 15 years most striking Danish blues albums. It was imprinted with the relentless uncompromising attitude which has characterized his career since (1997). Another significant studio album, Tomorrow released in 2004 and The Mike Andersen Band EP of 2006 followed along with hundreds of concerts across Europe, including opening for The Fabulous Thunderbirds and no less than three times for the legend B.B. King.

The 5th Annual Independent Music Awards (2005) winner in the blues songs category was Mike and the band's Stuck With Me.

During the last half of the decade, while honing his skills working with a variety of Danish local and international musicians, Mike was busy creating a new CD to show off his band's new sound. Two plus years in the making, when echoes was released in early 2010 Mike was heralded as "an original interpreter of the old qualities" by the music editor of the nation's second largest newspaper, Politiken. GAFFA, a leading publisher of music news in Denmark for almost thirty years wrote that echoes "is so far his best. Perhaps because . . . he dares to mix his interest in and enjoyment of the blues with his interest and pleasure in soul music." Three days later the countries leading pop radio station DR P4 named the new CD their Album of the Week. Then noted music journalist Peter Widmer wrote in the Odense Music Library's news about "Mike Andersen's voice that has evolved … with great range, and is primarily in the center of echoes, with lyrics about love, jealousy and passion as the main themes. In a bluesinthenorthwest.com review, Grahame Rhodes reviewed thusly: "Echoes comes highly recommended for those who like their music soulful and full of good grooves and top notch songs.

In Trumpet Magazine, a Danish Music Union publication, Mike tells the story of how he was able to connect with the Grammy award winning album producer and mixer Russell Elevado who final mixed echoes.
