This is the latest album, "RockSlide," by internationally recognized lap steel guitarist Sterling Koch (pronounced "Cook") from Pottsville, PA. "RockSlide" is the follow up to his previous "Let It Slide" album released in 2013 and "Slide Ruler" album released in 2011 which featured legendary blues bassist Tommy Shannon (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter) and Grammy nominated drummer Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers). The new album, "RockSlide" includes eight songs, seven originals and one cover, of varying blues/rock styles. The cover song, "Crossfire," is a song originally recorded by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Three of the originals were co-written with South Carolina lyricist Freida Gantt.
Sterling only began to play the lap steel in 2004 as the result of a neck injury, a herniated disk in his neck. He had previously played the conventional 6 string guitar for 35 years, Sterling specializes in playing Texas-style, blues-rock slide guitar on the lap steel. He is widely acclaimed as one of the foremost proponents of the lap steel guitar and magazines and newspapers around the world have recognized his mastery of the instrument.
Sterling has previously released 6 solo CDs of steel guitar blues music, "Place Your Bets," "Let It Slide," "Slide Ruler," "Steel Guitar Blues," "Steelin' Home" and "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" Sterling has had the support of the legendary steel guitarist Calvin Cooke (from the Slide Brothers and mentor to Robert Randolph of "Robert Randolph's Family Band") when first starting on lap steel and now can claim internationally known steel guitarists Darick Campbell, Aubrey Ghent (Slide Brothers) and Freddie Roulette as friends and mentors.
