Im Jahr 2006 war ich zum zweiten Mal mit meinem Trio zu Gast beim Gitarrenfestival in Patrimonio, Korsika. Die zweite Formation des Abends hatte den, mir damals unbekannten, Costel Nitescu an der Geige mit dabei. Seine unbändige Spielfreude und Virtuosität, bei den Uptempo Nummern, haben mich damals genauso beeindruckt wie seine Auffassung der langsamen Stücke, bei der seine sensiblen Improvisationen und sein großartiger Ton im Vordergrund standen. Nach unseren Auftritten haben wir uns beide noch Backstage getroffen und zusammen gejammt, Costel war ebenfalls von meinem Spiel begeistert, so dass wir uns vorgenommen haben, auf jeden Fall mal „etwas zusammen zu machen“. Wie so oft, ist daraus erstmal nichts geworden. Erst 13 Jahre später hat uns ein musikalischer Zufall wieder zusammengeführt. 2019 habe ich zusammen mit Sven Jungbeck einen Auftritt in der Nähe von Paris gespielt, bei dem der Veranstalter Sven und mich mit zwei französischen Kollegen an Bass und Geige zusammenbringen wollte. In der letzten Minute war der ursprünglich geplante Geiger krankheitsbedingt ausgefallen, und Costel ist stattdessen eingesprungen. Nach einem fantastischen Konzert habe ich diesmal die Gelegenheit beim Schopf gepackt und mit Costel ausgemacht, dass wir ihn für einige Konzerte in Deutschland einladen werden. Meine langjährigen Partner Sven Jungbeck (Rhythmusgitarre) und Volker Kamp (Kontrabass) waren sofort von Costels Spiel begeistert, und schnell war die Idee einer gemeinsamen CD geboren. Costel hat sich nahtlos in unser eingespieltes Trio eingefügt, so dass wir direkt das Gefühl hatten eine Einheit zu sein. Das hat dann auch direkt zum Titel der nun vorliegenden CD geführt – „Four of a kind“ eben. In nur anderthalb Tagen wurden die 13 vorliegenden Nummern aufgenommen. Wir hoffen Ihr habt genau so viel Spaß beim Hören, wie wir beim Einspielen im Studio.

My long-time partners Sven Jungbeck (rhythm guitar) and Volker Kamp (double bass) were immediately taken with Costel's playing and the idea of a joint CD was quickly born. Costel fitted seamlessly into our well-rehearsed trio, so that we immediately had the feeling of being one unit. This led directly to the title of the present CD - "Four of a Kind". The 13 numbers were recorded in only one and a half days. We hope you have as much fun listening to them as we had recording them in the studio.

La segunda formación de la noche incluía a Costel Nitescu al violín, desconocido para mí en aquel momento. Tras un concierto fantástico, esta vez aproveché la oportunidad y acordé con Costel que le invitaríamos a algunos conciertos en Alemania. Mis socios de siempre, Sven Jungbeck (guitarra rítmica) y Volker Kamp (contrabajo), quedaron inmediatamente prendados de la forma de tocar de Costel y enseguida surgió la idea de grabar un CD conjunto. Costel encajó a la perfección en nuestro trío bien ensayado, de modo que enseguida tuvimos la sensación de ser una unidad. Esto nos llevó directamente al título de este CD: "Four of a Kind". Los 13 números se grabaron en sólo un día y medio. Esperamos que se diviertan tanto escuchándolos como nosotros grabándolos en el estudio.
