 Orgone is an American band from Los Angeles, California. The group's sound draws from 1960s and 1970s-era funk and soul.
While several members of the band played together from the early 1990s, Orgone did not coalesce into a regular band until around 1999.
Many of their early gigs were as a backing band for hip-hop musicians. After a 2001 debut release, the band added vocalist Fanny Franklin to do a cover of "Funky Nassau" by the Beginning of the End; she remained as a full-time member, although much of their music is instrumental. 
The group released its second album The Killion Floor in 2007, which featured "Funky Nassau" as well as covers of "Do Your Thing" by Isaac Hayes and "I Get Lifted" by Harry Wayne Casey of K.C. and the Sunshine Band. In 2010 the band opened for Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings on tour. They have also performed at festivals like Bonnaroo and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

In the liner notes to this album, Jim Heath (better known as Reverend Horton Heat) says that he began jamming with Hammond organ man Tim Alexander and drummer Todd Soesbe because he was "looking for some new ways to improve my guitar playing." Anyone who has heard Heath tear up fretboards as the world's leading psychobilly guitarist might wonder just how much improvement the man really needed, but there's no arguing that Hi-Fi Stereo, credited to his new side combo Rev. Organdrum, gives Heath a chance to stretch out in some new and interesting directions. With Hi-Fi Stereo, Heath puts his hot-wired roots rock on the back burner in favor of some cooler retro sounds in a set that runs the gamut from vintage movie themes ("A Shot in the Dark," "Hang 'Em High," "James Bond Theme") and classic blues workouts ("Night Train," "I Got a Woman") to swinging jazz (Duke Ellington's "C Jam Blues," Roland Kirk's "Black and Crazy Blues"), and '60s soul ("Groovin'," "Time Is Tight"). Heath's guitar work is considerably more muted than usual in this context, but he still shows off plenty of very impressive picking as he digs deep into some moody and melodic tunes, and with Alexander on keys he's not the sole star of the show for a change, and the interplay between the two manages to sound playful and intuitive while they push one another in the right directions. Drummer Soesbe doesn't get as much time in the spotlight, but his accompaniment is solid and he pushes the music forward with grace and strength. The best Reverend Horton Heat records are generally the most frantic, and Rev. Organdrum represents a big step in the opposite direction, but Hi-Fi Stereo shows Jim Heath can dial down the volume and still come up with fun, compelling music, and with any luck, this happening trio will head back to the studio some time soon.

Initially created to be the house band for Allen Toussaint and Marshall Sehorn's Sansu Enterprises, the Meters started out backing such famous names as Lee Dorsey and Betty Harris. Led by organist Art Neville, the quartet was rounded out by jazz-influenced guitarist Leo Nocentelli, along with the bubbling rhythm section of bassist George Porter, Jr. and drummer Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste. Booker T. & the M.G.'s may have been the most obvious influence, but the Meters differentiated themselves by injecting a healthy dose of New Orleans funk into their sound. Led by Neville's fat-sounding organ, the Meters quickly scored hits with the sinewy "Cissy Strut" and the more languid "Sophisticated Cissy." Simplicity is the hallmark of this impressive debut and nuance is paramount, whether it's Nocentelli's lazy riffs echoing throughout "Ease Back" or Modeliste unobtrusively riding his hi-hat along the perimeter of the Memphis-fried "6V6 La." Not unlike the M.G.'s, the Meters were masters of interpretation -- the band here moves easily from a chugging reading of Sly Stone's "Sing a Simple Song," to kicking back on a smoky version of the Classics IV's "Stormy."

The band released their first autonomous album "Return On The Iron Monkey" in 2008, and have already experienced a mass of media interest and a heavyweight fan base thanks to the pedigree of the musicians involved. 

 

Trio Valore es la nueva apuesta musical de Steve White (ex de Style Council y batería habitual de Paul Weller), junto a Damon Minchella (Ocean Colour Scene) y Seamus Beaghen (Madness, Babyshambles,...).

Este trío ofrecen rhythm & blues —jazz, con una base de percusión, hammond y base rítmica e influencias 60s. Doce temas incluye el álbum, entre ellos versiones del Fire de Jimmy Hendrix, del Paint It Black de los Rolling Stones y, hay que ver lo que hace la fama, del Rehab de Amy Winehouse. 

Dicen rendir homenaje en este disco, grabado en Roma, a las grandes secciones rítmicas que han inspirado a la banda, como los Meters o los MGs, todo envuelto en una capa de soul. 

 

 

 

The Bongolian • Outer Bongolia

Back in 2001, Nasser Bouzida disappeared into his studio and created a solo set of recordings. Drawing on influences of Funk, Latin, Soul and Jazz Nasser produced an inspired selection of recordings blending elements of grinding percussion and heavy Bongo rhythms. The eponymous debut ‘The Bongolian’ was released early in 2002 to much critical acclaim and has since been followed up by the albums Blueprint, Outer Bongolia, Bongos For Beatniks and Moog Maximus, with a sixth album due in 2019. The albums have become record box essentials for DJs, finding a wide appeal from Dance and Hip-Hop to Rare Groove and Funk 45s fans. Several Bongolian tracks have been playlisted on BBC 6 Music and also featured on BBC TV’s Top Gear as well as Amazon Prime’s Grand Tour.

In addition to this Nasser has written and recorded two funky library records for De Wolfe and worked with artists as diverse as Morcheeba, Laurel Aitkin, Paul Waller, Craig Charles and Bad Manners.

Nasser is also the owner of Beat Mountain studios in Wales and creator of the Beat Mountain Sample Pack – a huge compendium of retro style drum and percussion breaks and loops. These loops are all performed and produced by Nasser, to allow anybody to create their own music with a retro breakbeat bedrock.

Mike Painter & The Family Shakers - Go Up!

Musician and composer from Milan, started out his career in the early ‘80s as keyboard player with “Four by Art”, an historical band from the Sixties Revival Italian Mod scene.. From then on, he joined several bands, such as “The Investigators”, “Il Santo” and “Mr.Tokyo & The Beat Goes On”. And the solo project “Mike Painter & The Family Shakers”. From Jimmy Smith to Booker T & The MG’s, From Jimmy Mc Griff to Billy Preston, these are just a few amongst the most well known names that made the history of this genre, which inspired his own sound, making him a reference point both as Mod icon in the Italian scene, and in the ‘60s and ‘70s style Spy-movies field.The single “Go Up” from his debut album as a solo artist, distributed by the Family Affair label, became the soundtrack for the TV advert “Kronos Shoes” (starring Filippo Nardi, ex Iene as testimonial).Inspired by the British TV Series U.F.O., he arranged an instrumental version, which in turn was picked up by the Acid Jazz record label. More tracks were then published by Irma Record and Record Kick labels.Further, he worked with the American record label “Hammond Beat”, composing music for the Wilson Chance movie soundtrack. He has been taking part of the most important and influential International Mod/Sixties festivals, such as Beat Epoque, Festival Lounge, All Saint Mod Holiday, and the Sunslice Festival held in Toulon, France, critically acclaimed by the foreign and local press as Rockerilla, Rockstar and Acid Jazz magazines. In 2008, he met up with Viola Road starting a new band “Mike Painter Quintet & Viola Road”. Singer/songwriter Viola Road is one of best loved and appreciated voices in the soul scene in Milan. She sings melodies and writes lyrics for the Mike Painter Quintet with whom he performed and cut tracks for the album “Hammond Voice”.  Also, she is currently writing and performing with soul band with psychedelic and hard rock influences “Lord Shani”, and together have recorded the album”Progress Your Soul”. From 2009 to 2011, Mike Painter Quintet & Viola Road have had a residency at the Connie Douglas Club, Milan, the temple of the Burlesque in town. Furthermore, they play at cocktail  parties held at the Hotel Maison Moschino, as well as at the Triennale Fair of Milan, where they played for the opening of Designer Luigi Colani’s Museum and many more dates. The band recorded the album “Hammond Voice” in 2012, coming out with two promo videos : “Not One Drop” and “Lies”. The record includes 10 tunes, original songs, instrumental tracks and covers, enriched with fascinating soul and vibes so typical of the Mod and Rhythm & Blus cultures.

Esa sonrisa se convierte en una sonrisa total cuando escuchas su música, una mezcla conmovedora, pero a la vez pomposa, de fusión de jazz instrumental que no toma prisioneros. The Link Quartet • Minimal Animal

The legendary kings of hammondbeat, LINK QUARTET from Italy, have released six records, several singles, digital releases and appeared on numerous compilations and guest appearances since 1993 already. Now the jazzy, funky instrumental quartet around the virtuosic Paolo 'Apollo' Negri release yetanother fantastic record, this time on Sound Flat Records, that has a Mod/soul/jazz-feeling to it.

'Minimal Animal' is all LINK QUARTET-originals and all instrumentals with absolutely divine, mindblowing hammond-organ-soli, a jazzy beat, groovy guitars and catchy melodies. Incredibly cool, funky, danceable sounds (such as 'Black Bug') mixed with one or the other calmer song with laid-back jazzy wah-wah sounds and finally even groovy, ska/rocksteady-offbeat, hammond-driven songs like 'Peacock Steady' altogether combine into a well-rounded album from beginning to end.

With this record, Soundflat Records enters a slightly different/new spectrum of sixties-sound and adopts one of Europe's, if not worldwide, best hammondbeat-acid jazz-bands to the Soundflat- Records-family.This band combines hammonddriven beat and jazz so well, that not only Modand Funk-lovers will love this album, but due to its variety of different influences it will appeal to a much broader crowd from all different kinds of musical backgrounds and leave them more than impressed.

"Minimal Animal" is a welcome back home album for The Link Quartet, 11 original instrumental tracks (the CD includes two additional bonus tracks) of pure raw funk, minimal and aggressive, where the screaming Hammond organ of Paolo Apollo Negri duets with the acid wah wah guitar of Marco Murtas over the rocky rhythm lines of Renzo Bassi (bass) and Alberto Pato Maffi (drums). The quartet is back on the track of the long and prolific tradition of bands like The Meters, Alan Hawkshaw, Jackie Mittoo and many others but don't forget to keep an eye on the future to serve a unique cocktail of retro futuristic tunes. Minimal Animal' es todo original de LINK QUARTET y todos los instrumentales con un divino y alucinante órgano-hammond-soli, un ritmo jazzístico, guitarras groovy y melodías pegadizas. 'Moog Maximus' see the welcome return of The Bongolian, AKA multi-instrumentalist and Big Boss Man front man Nasser Bouzida. His fifth album under the Bongolian moniker continues the musical journey where 2011’s 'Bongos For Beatniks' left off, taking us through the fractures of time like fellow traveller H. G. Wells. Nasser has now landed in ancient Rome, armed with a bank of Moog synthesisers over a bed of heavy grooves in a wildly eclectic fusion of Funk Soul Hammond Beat Jazz and a Sci-Fi Boogaloo.

Back in 2001, Nasser Bouzida disappeared into his studio and created a solo set of recordings which resulted in the birth of his alter ego The Bongolian. Drawing on influences of Funk, Latin, Soul and Jazz, Nasser produced an inspired selection of recordings blending elements of grinding percussion and heavy Bongo rhythms. Nasser Bouzida's most recent release was with Big Boss Man whose 4th album 'Last Man On Earth' which received strong support at BBC 6 Music (Cerys Mathews, Craig Charles, Gideon Coe, Nemone) with the band touring Europe extensively since it’s release. The Bongolian also collaborated with Fay Hallam for the album 'Lost In Sound' (Fay Hallam & The Bongolian).
