Orgone is an American band from Los Angeles, California. The group's sound draws from 1960s and 1970s-era funk and soul.
While several members of the band played together from the early 1990s, Orgone did not coalesce into a regular band until around 1999.
Many of their early gigs were as a backing band for hip-hop musicians. After a 2001 debut release, the band added vocalist Fanny Franklin to do a cover of "Funky Nassau" by the Beginning of the End; she remained as a full-time member, although much of their music is instrumental. 
The group released its second album The Killion Floor in 2007, which featured "Funky Nassau" as well as covers of "Do Your Thing" by Isaac Hayes and "I Get Lifted" by Harry Wayne Casey of K.C. and the Sunshine Band. In 2010 the band opened for Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings on tour. They have also performed at festivals like Bonnaroo and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Orgone • Fuzzed Up

Fuzzed Up (Deep East) is an all new, all instrumental album from Los Angeles’ Orgone that was released earlier this year, but I was not aware of it until the other day, so I decided to check it out. They are a funk band who like to add in elements of rock, soul, jazz, and Afrobeat into their music so some tracks may sound like a deep Meters track, others may be along the lines of Poets Of Rhythm or Big Chief, while other times things may lean towards The Stooges or the MC5, as if they’re traveling to various funky cities and getting off on everything from food to women to stereo equipment from 1971. It’s blistering musically, and its ugly and gritty on the audio side, not bootleg by any means but it has the feel of something that was decided in a live room with live people playing this music live. A song like “Swinging Grits” may be perfect as background music for your latest skateboard, surfing, or skiing film, while “Deuce In The Hole” sounds like what would happen if the Edgar Winter Group decided to hang out with Art Neville and Zigaboo Modeliste while leaving the guys in ZZ Top to comb their beards in the hallway. Orgone • Killion Vaults

Killion Vaults is the second full-length dropped by California nonet Orgone in 2010. The first one, Cali Fever, was issued in June to very positive reviews. But it's not a mere extension of the celebratory hard funk and psychedelic beat consciousness of its predecessor, nor the gritty Southern-styled funk and groove of the similarly named debut, Killion Floor, from 2007. Instead, this 18-track set is the first all-instrumental set issued by Orgone; while it's true that lead vocalist Fanny Franklin is named in the credits here, she doesn't sing a note. Consequently, the cuts on Killion Vaults feel more like vamp-based jams that would be in a soundtrack rather than actual songs. These tracks are more steeped in delay, fuzz, distortion, dub, and reverb effects, and sound very retro. The vibe is also more laid-back than on their previous recordings, though that isn't a minus. There's more to take in here, since the arrangements are less dense but no less present and the sonics are more expansive. The entire thing flows from beginning to end with a very consistent midtempo smoulder rather than a dancefloor burn. World music influences from reggae, Ethio-jazz, Malian funk, and highlife are juxtaposed alongside choppy, druggy funk, as on the stellar "Waiting." Other standouts include the moody, noir-ish "Interloper," with its surf-styled guitar and drifting organ and well-placed vibes; the Morricone-esque yet Afro-jazz on "Dark Falls"; the psychedelic Orientalism of "Dead Reckoning"; "Sonny's Lament," with its feel and sound similar to the Animals' version of "House of the Rising Sun"; and the nasty clavinet-driven funk in "Cruel Intentions." Each of these tracks is short -- the longest piece here is three and a half minutes -- making for a breezy, cinematic single-setting listen. Killion Vaults is another laid-back but no less sophisticated side of Orgone; fans of film music, retro funk, rock, and danceworthy world music should take note.

Killion Vaults es el segundo álbum que ha caído por California del nonet Orgone en 2010. La primera, Fiebre de Cali, se publicó en junio con críticas muy positivas. Pero no es una mera extensión de la celebridad del hard funk y la conciencia del ritmo psicodélico de su predecesor, ni del funk y el groove de estilo sureño del debut de nombre similar, Killion Floor, de 2007. En cambio, este conjunto de 18 pistas es el primer conjunto totalmente instrumental publicado por Orgone; si bien es cierto que la vocalista principal Fanny Franklin aparece en los créditos aquí, no canta ni una nota. En consecuencia, los cortes en Killion Vaults parecen más bien improvisaciones de vampiros que estarían en una banda sonora que en canciones reales. Estos temas están más cargados de efectos de retardo, pelusa, distorsión, doblaje y reverberación, y suenan muy retro. La vibración también es más relajada que en sus grabaciones anteriores, aunque eso no es un inconveniente. Hay más para tomar aquí, ya que los arreglos son menos densos pero no menos presentes y los sónicos son más expansivos.
