Roy Meriwether is a jazz pianist born February 24, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio. He first played in his father's church, accompanying the family choir. In the 1960s, he directed a trio and signed with Columbia in 1965. He continued to perform as a trio while also participating in recordings with saxophonist Joe Lewis (1987) and flutist Chip Shelton (2000).
Highly influenced by Gospel, loving to play the blues, Roy Meriwether has a style close to those of Gene Harris and Ramsey Lewis.
