Paolo Apollo Negri • SXSW Odyssey
Paolo "Apollo" Negri makes his first trip back to the US since 2004's Sound of Danger tour with a pair of appearances at the legendary SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Entitled Paolo Apollo Negri's SXSW Odyssey, he will be joined by his long time friends The Diplomats of Solid Sound and brand new friends and label mates Flyjack, with funky harmonizing by The Diplomettes and Teresa Reeves-Gilmer.
First up will be the official SXSW showcase event that will feature a tight 45 minute journey through the 7 year collaboration with Hammondbeat Records from The Link Quartet to Fred Leslie's missing Link and everything in between. Then there is the soon to be legend day party at the historic Victory Grill which will feature 5 hours of funk from The Diplomats of Solid Sound, Flyjack, an encore of the showcase, and topped off with an no holds barred funk and soul jam.
All of this is commemorated with a brand new album exclusive for download. The first 1000 of which were given away for free at the SXSW festival and will be available in the summer of 2009 from iTunes. The album features 12 unreleased and exclusive songs from the Hammondbeat archives, all with Apollo either solo or in one of his many collaborations.

Paolo began his career in the early 90s. The Hammond organ is the
instrument by which he is most closely associated, thanks to his
aggressive and distinguished style with ties to the masters of the past
and a true, original, personal view of the future. Paolo is recognized
internationally as one of the most important and influential players of
this legendary instrument.
He’s the organ player and songwriter of The Link Quartet since 1997 and his style has contributed to the worldwide success of the band, both live and on studio recordings. During the years he’s grown a reputation as an eclectic session man, playing on more than 300 albums covering almost every musical style. He was a central member and songwriter for Wicked Minds (2000-2013) and has joined Black Widow, Ray Daytona & Googoobombos, Mastica, Modulo 5, Low Fidelity Jet-Set Orchestra, Fred Leslie’s Missing Link, and many others.
In his solo career Paolo explored another side of his music, constantly enlarging and expanding his personal musical horizon, digging into jazz, fusion and funk while developing an expert technique on the electric piano and synthesizers. His love for vintage keyboards and mosaic arrangement, together with a taste for fresh style, brought him to collaborate and endorse some famous brands like Waldorf, Studiologic and Arturia.

El órgano de Hammond es el instrumento con el que está más estrechamente asociado, gracias a su estilo agresivo y distinguido, con vínculos con los maestros del pasado y una visión verdadera, original y personal del futuro. Attivo dal 1993, il quartetto di Piacenza si è imposto a livello internazionale come punto di riferimento per il suono Hammond grazie a un’esplosiva miscela di funk, rock e soul interpretata in maniera unica, moderna e originale.
La band, che da sempre affianca all’attività in studio un’intensa serie di concerti in giro per il mondo, ha calcato palchi prestigiosi come il GO! Lleida ’60 Festival in Spagna, il 100 Club di Londra, l’Our Way of Thinking di Chicago, il Club Au-go-go di Los Angeles, lo Sziget Festival di Budapest, l’Hammond Explosion di Parigi, condividendo il palco con gruppi del calibro di Manu Chao, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley, James Taylor Quartet, Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express, Downliners Sect, Chocolate Watch Band e Bonniwell Music Machine.
La collaborazione con etichette prestigiose come Acid Jazz (UK), Record Kicks (ITA), Hammondbeat (USA), Soundflat (GER), P-Vine (JPN), Area Pirata (ITA) e molte altre ha permesso al Link Quartet di lavorare con numerosi artisti italiani e stranieri, reinventando continuamente il proprio suono, con un occhio rivolto al futuro e uno strettamente ancorato alla lunga e prestigiosa tradizione dell’organo Hammond.
Dopo il tour promozionale dell’album “Minimal Animal” che ha portato nuovamente il gruppo in giro per tutta Europa, il Link Quartet ha deciso di festeggiare il suo venticinquesimo compleanno registrando dal vivo in studio i suoi brani migliori durante un evento di tre giorni aperto al pubblico, svoltosi presso lo studio di registrazione di Tanzan Music.
Il risultato è Secret Sessions, un nuovo album dal vivo che raccoglie il meglio della carriera della band e che restituisce su disco tutta la carica e l’energia dei live. Da “Beat.it” a “Minimal Animal” passando per “Italian Playboys”, “4”, “Fast Girl & Sexy Cars” e “Quattro Pezzi Facili”, il gruppo rispolvera i classici della sua carriera, offrendo all’ascoltatore una nuova prospettiva sul proprio suono.
L’edizione in LP è uscita 31 Maggio 2019 per l’inglese Spinout Nuggets in un’edizione limitata e numerata di 300 copie insieme all’edizione digitale per Tanzan Music e ai video registrati durante le performance.

After the promotional tour of the album “Minimal Animal " that again took the group around Europe, the Link Quartet decided to celebrate its twenty-fifth birthday by recording its best songs live in the studio during a three-day event open to the public, held at the recording studio of Tanzan Music.
The result is Secret Sessions, a new live album that collects the best of the band's career and that returns all the charge and energy of the live. From “Beat.it " a "Minimal Animal" passing through " Italian Pla Pla By S”, “4”, “Fast Girl & Se Se Cars” and “Four Easy Pieces”, the group dusts off the classics of its career, offering the listener a new perspective on their own sound.
The LP edition was released 31 May 2019 for the English Spinout Nuggets in a limited and numbered edition of 300 copies along with the digital edition for Tanzan Music and videos recorded during the performances.
